Please, oh Nanny Government, protect me from myself. Make everything illegal so all I do is sit all day and not go out. I'll be a good boy and obey you! This way I will live a long life that will bore be to death before I'm 20!
Like I said before, the government should outlaw texting just like they did with 3 wheeled ATV's. Texting is as bad as driving drunk!
While I agree with the handheld phone ban and the texting ban, it should be up to the states, not the federal gov't.
Making it a federal law won't improve anything!
They don't ENFORCE it at the STATE level now!
Everywhere you look, someone has a phone up to their ear or you can tell they're texting by the up and down looks and the change in either vehicle speed or the fact that they can't stay in the center of their lane.
I will not pity the one of you that ever hits me and you were on your phone. It'll be time to for someone (maybe your lawyer) to say to you "May God have mercy on you", because I certainly won't!
If they are that concerned with people's driving behaviors, why don't they bring back driver ed. in high school?
I think most people's driving skills went downhill when that was discontinued.
Cell phone or not, if you can't drive, you can't drive.
While I do agree that texting while driving is dangerous and shouldn't be allowed, talking on the phone isn't much different then talking to someone who is riding in the car with you or talking with your kids in the car! What are they going to do next tell me I can't eat in my car or have my kids in my car because it is a distraction!? Anything can be a distraction while driving it just depends on how you handle that distraction and if you CAN drive!!

I have yet, to see ONE person who was talking on their cell phone or texting driving their car like they should have been driving.
EVERY time I see a car back and forth in their lane (and sometimes across the line either way) or I get in front or behind someone who speeds up and slows down repeatedly, they've ALWAYS had a phone up to their ear OR they were looking up and down and I believe that it texting while driving.
I have a cell phone and I refuse to answer it if I am driving, period. I am smart enough to know that talking on the phone while driving is DANGEROUS, not just for me but everyone around me.
I know there are those out there who THINK they can talk/text and drive at the same time. I'm here to tell those people NO YOU CAN'T!

I see that everyday. And they had no cell phone. Some people just can't drive period. They were never taught properly and if they were, they don't retain it.
Stay in left lane for miles for no reason. Speed up and pass you simple because you passed them. lol. I will never understand that one.
And some speed up or block you in just so you can't pass them.
These types of drivers have enough trouble going down the road without having a cell phone to challenge them more.
If the police would enforce the laws already on the books, except for speeding and the occasional seat belt violation, driving habits might improve with some people.
But those types of tickets are harder to prove in court and don't generate revenue as fast and sure as speeding.
And that's what it is about, revenue. They can say it's for safety until they are blue in the face but that doesn't make it true.
If they wanted people to slow down they would be in plain sight and people would automatically slow down for fear of getting a ticket.
But what do cops do? They hide. They want to catch you speeding so they can issue a ticket and collect revenue. Plain and simple.
Cell phone use will probably be another revenue maker when they decide to crack down on it. But first they have to get the cops from using them while driving also.
