Delaware Councilman Apologizes For October Fracas

GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) -- A Sussex County councilman is apologizing for a physical altercation with the county sheriff two months ago.

The apology from Vance Phillips comes a day after state prosecutors declined to bring charges in the Oct. 26 scuffle with Sussex Sheriff Jeff Christopher.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that Phillips called the altercation an "unfortunate and embarrassing episode" in a written apology issued Saturday to Christopher, county residents and other Republicans. He says he would have acted differently in retrospect.
