LINTHICUM, Md. - In about four months, a company called Island Travel & Tours will begin operating direct charter flights between BWI Marshall and Havana, Cuba.
The weekly flights are scheduled to begin on March 21, 2012.
BWI Marshall was cleared by the federal government earlier this year to begin offering the flights. Only a few other American cities have received similar clearance including Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, New York and Tampa.
"These flights are intended to build upon the President's new policy that he issued on January the 14th of this year, wanting to have more 'purposeful travel' as he calls it," says company president Bill Hauf. For example educational, business and cultural trips.

Well there goes Cuba down the toilet.
Build a bridge over there, they well go down much faster.
If the President wants more meaningful travel, put him on the first flight from Baltimore and let him go.
I meant to say "purposeful travel"
Although travel restrictions have eased in recent years, Americans who just want to vacation there still cannot legally go directly to Cuba.
I guess if you're a college student, journalist, business person or someone in the clergy this may benefit you, but it won't affect me, at least for now.
Makes sense since large oil reserves were discovered off of the shores of Cuba just right for off shore oil platforms.
Now we want to be friends. The Cubans have not been a threat to us since Kennedy forced Russia to withdraw their missle project in the early 60's.
If you really want to be around cubans go to miami. Just like cuba, except with transportation and electric.
