Parking Changes Eyed For Government Lots

SALISBURY -- Parking problems in the city have officials considering changes to several government lots, some of which might upset disabled employees, according to one Salisbury City Council member.

The council discussed changes to nearby lot number 9, which is behind the government building, and lot number 14, which is across the street. Lot 9 especially raised eyebrows among the council.

“We receive a lot of complaints about how limited parking is in lot 9,” said Internal Services Director Pam Oland.

What's the problem? Are they disabled or LAZY!! Temporary disabilities such as a broken limb doesn't mean they are ENTITLED to free parking. If it is needed I don't have a problem with the patient/employee getting a doctor's note and getting a temporary HC parking permit. The problem I see is these lazy people taking advantage of free and up close parking because they are lazy. What good is HC parking in places such as the Mall? These lazy people use that permit for close up, free parking and walking all over the mall.

I have to pay my water bill and try to park in LOT #9, but it's always full of police cars, employees cars and what the parking women said was medical permits. It is a 30 minute lot, but it looks like they park there all day or at least most of the morning? Maybe they have a point. Where is LOT #14?

I would like to remind people that not all disabilities are visible. Also, a doctor must complete a MVA form and sign off before a h/c permit can be issued. Also a broken ankle or leg should be considered as appropriate for a h/c permit. As with anything, there are a few bad apples; but you shouldn't heap all h/c people in the "lazy" catagory. At least they are trying to continue on with their business. I don't agree with 9:08 who sounds only like a complainer.

It would be easier is you would put a stamp on the self addressed envelope instead of rushing in the GOB to pay your water bill before they cut it off.

That's what most do on this blog. Some call it venting. But there is a difference.

Some people complain just to be complaining as they have no idea what they are complaining about.

I think adding additional meters to any lot downtown is just the way to encourage more people to visit or as they say revitalize downtown! IDIOTS! This was well thought through!

Let's add meters to a lot that already has low volume...real smart Pam! Oh and btw...yea, lets charge those employees with a disability $40 a month to park. Way to go Internal Services Director...which means HR Director. Seriously - I can't believe she is trying to charge her own employees the highest rate in the City just so they can work. Oh - we provide free parking in lots 7/13. Those lots are across Rt. 50...and behind Trinity Church. It is awful to think someone with a chronic medical condition that gets short of breath must walk that far in extreme hot or cold temps...oh - yea, they can pay $40 a month...furloughed with no raise in over 3 years!!! Way to go Salisbury - that is why your employees are leaving hand over fist. Your own "HR Director" doesn't give a rat's a** about the employees.
