Toll Hearing Tonight in Arnold

State officials will hold a public hearing tonight to discuss proposals to increase tolls at the Bay Bridge and other facilities.

The hearing will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Severn River Middle School, 241 Peninsula Farm Road in Arnold.

Through Aug. 1, the Maryland Transportation Authority is soliciting public comment about an effort to generate $77 million by increasing tolls. Tonight’s meeting is one of nine scheduled around the state.

Under the proposal, the toll for cars and light trucks crossing the Bay Bridge would double — from $2.50 to $5 — by Oct. 1, then increase to $8 by July 1, 2013.

The public can submit comments online at www.mdta.maryland.gov or by writing MDTA Toll Comments, 2310 Broening Highway, Baltimore, 21224.

These "public hearings" are beginning to be a joke. At EVERY ONE of them, 99% of the public ("we, the people") stand up and speak vehemently AGAINST it. BUT, they keep holding more "hearings". It doesn't appear to me that our "leaders" can "hear" a damn thing, except their own self-centered and self-important opinions. What are they hoping for? Finding a locale where the citizens actually demand the tolls be RAISED?? When they admitted that the toll money wasn't really going to be used to cover maintainence costs for the bridge, they lost all credibility. Raising tolls is just ANOTHER avenue they will use to take MORE money from citizens. Another revenue stream. Thats ALL it is. How about STOP SPENDING all of our money??? Hang them in effigy in front of the building. Put some FEAR into their smug and inattentive soul.

Why don't you do something other than complain and come up with solutions on how to fund infrastructure without raising taxes, tolls, etc. I know, I know, "cut the fat" right? Yeah right.
