Some Chicken May Contain Small Amounts of Arsenic

The Food and Drug Administration says some chicken meat may contain small amounts of arsenic, though the agency is stressing that the amount is too tiny to be dangerous to people who eat it.

The FDA said Wednesday that a new study developed by the agency shows that an ingredient in chicken feed that contains arsenic, called Roxarsone, may make its way into parts of the bird that are eaten. Previous studies have indicated that the arsenic was eliminated with chicken waste.

What does Jim Perdue say?

THATS what they say NOW. I guess the next report will be (if history is any lesson) that the amounts are larger than previously reported, but will ONLY affect those with "weakened immune systems" or such. The FDA says they wouldn't approve aspirin today if it had to go through the approval process. LOL! I wonder what that "process" is, since this morning, I saw several ad for drugs that have side effects including "fatal reactions" (?!! WTF??), heart attacks, skin diseases, liver and kidney failure, etc. It seems it would be better just to take some aspirin....Thanks FDA. Another government agency tasked to "protect" us, but I think, nowadays, they are "protecting" the profits margins of rich pharmacuetical patrons, and of course, chicken producers. How much did Perdue give in "campaign contributions (bribes) to BOTH parties?? Like he supports BOTH party platforms??? Hey, arsenic doesn't kill EVERYBODY...quit freaking out.

Arsenic in chicken feed has been a long time practice used by poultry companies (since the 1950's). BTW - farmers don't add the arsenic to the feed the company that they contract with does and insists that the farmer feed it or lose their contract.

Arsenic is used for growth promotion in chickens and it helps get the chicken to slaughter quicker. I mean really, a newly hatched chick reaches a slaughter weight of a 5 1/2 pound broiler in less than 7 weeks. Not normal growth for chickens.

As of yet, no one dares to mention all of that arsenic that ends up in chicken manure and then is spread on farm fields. Arsenic does not disappear in the environment it builds up. What about all that has ended up on the land, in the groundwater, and in the runoff into our streams, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay?

The really bad part is that chicken companies don't have to use arsenic in the feed. Chcikens live just fine without it they just don't grow as quickly. It's all about greed and having no care for the people, communities, and environment that suffer the consequences.
