Rep. Andy Harris' Statement On May Jobs Report

Job Growth is Job One

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today’s shockingly weak jobs report for May indicates a stalled economy, which has Maryland families, investors and businesses fearful of a possible double dip recession.  With the national unemployment rate again over 9%, and only 54,000 jobs added last month, it is clear that a new fiscal policy course must be charted.
“In order to grow the economy and create jobs in America, we must stop the spending spree in Washington,” said Rep. Andy Harris.  “President Obama’s insistence on taxing and spending our way to prosperity doesn’t work.  It’s time to chart a new course – it’s time for results.”
Since the passage of President Obama’s cornerstone economic policy, the Stimulus package of 2009, 1.8 million American jobs have been shed at a cost of $1.1 trillion and the federal debt has risen to $14.29 billion.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 150,000 new jobs need to be created each month just to keep up with the population growth.  The economy is not growing fast enough to employ the nearly 14 million Americans looking for jobs.

We need to curtail the long-term deficit but conservatives sound like idiots when trying to say that the deficit is the reason for low job growth. Keep chasing those windmills, you are pulling us all over the cliff.

He claims that 1.9 million jobs have been lost since 2009? Why is he lying? 2 million jobs have been created since Obama was in office. If he feels the need to lie on something that's so easily verifiable as this, what else is he lying about?

Just go back to Washington and keep voting to take away Medicare and give the savings to the rich in more tax breaks. That's what you're good for, Andy.

Anon 1309 -

Are you aware that Moody's has just placed the Federal government on credit watch. Do you honestly believe that the government can continue to spend more than they take in forever?

Anon 1423 -

I guess that all of those people collecting unemployment checks are merely defrauding the government?

Get real! The deficit is far too big for us keep down this path.

BTW - Andy isn't looking to take "Medicare" away from the people. WRONG!

Andy voted to change the medicare system to a voucher system. How is that not taking away Medicare?

Hmm, take medicare away and replace it with some private insurance voucher..... Yes - he definitely wants to ditch medicare.
