Hotel Housekeeping: Do You Tip?

(CNN) -- Business traveler Bob Logan always tips hotel housekeepers, but he still has questions about the best way to do it.

"Let's say I'm going into a hotel for three nights, do I leave something every night, do I do it only at the end? Does the housekeeper at the end -- is it the same one that did it the other night?" wonders Logan, a New Jersey business development director who spends about 50 nights a year in hotels.

No! The rooms are expensive enough. This comes with the price of the room. If I have to pay extra for this, I will just go without it. I'm sure they work hard, but so do I. Let the Hotel or Motel reward them for good service based on customer reviews.

I haven't tipped housekeeping, but I will from now on. They probably aren't paid very well to begin with and they are cleaning your nasty mess everyday. If can afford the room, what is an extra $2 a day?

Absolutely not!
If I left a tip ever time I stay at a hotel I'd go broke.
I can't expense tips.

We routinely leave a $2 tip every night for the housekeeper. Even after the final night of our stay.

A note with "Thank you Housekeeping" is left with the tip, indicating that the money is theirs.

Sometimes, we even find a "thank you" note left by the maid for thinking of her.

Seems like everyone has their hands out now days! I definitely tip for good service in a restaurant or for haircuts, but that is where i draw the line. Hotels and Motels pay their staff to do housekeeping. That is their job. If they don't like it, there are plenty of others who are looking for work who would gladly take their place! At a hundred or more a night, I am not paying extra!!!

you tip a waitress because most of us pretty much know what they make per hour and it sucks, but in reality all they do is bring the food its the cooks that actually do the work and make it taste like it does but the waitress deserves her tips, now as far as the cleaners let me tell ya they all usally make min wage and work their butts off for it and the hotels are not gonna pay them anymore they to depend on the tips that are left.if you are staying more than 1 night leaving a couple of bucks is worth getting clean sheets and a clean room not leaving anything may just get you sheets that are just pulled tight dirty glasses with god knows what smeared on them and a not so clean bathroom.so if a few bucks a day will get you better living while away from the comforts of home then yes leave it for them they really do earn it,and the hotels will not reward them for a service well done!i should add this i work in the cleaning industry and we pay our cleaners very well but it is in commercial cleaning,i have hired several hotel cleaners and when i see what they are making well that should just be illegal as hell!

A certain group does not tip at all, no matter who is performing a service for them.

People rely on tips for their income. Employers take that into consideration when they offer them a wage upon hiring.

If you receive good service, leave a good tip. If you receive bad service, let your tip reflect that.

I can't believe this is even an issue in the 21st century.

I usually leave a $5 on the bed each day. These people work hard and don't make crap. The expectation that the hotel is paying people who clean up your mess a living wage is laughable.
