Seven Americans Killed in Afghanistan Explosion

Nine NATO service members were killed Thursday in Afghanistan, including seven U.S. troops among eight who died when a powerful bomb exploded in a field where they were patrolling on foot, officials said.

Two Afghan policemen also died and two others were wounded in the explosion in the mountainous Shorabak district of Kandahar province, 12 miles from the Pakistan border, said Gen. Abdul Raziq, chief of the Afghan border police in the province.

"Two months ago, we cleared this area of terrorists, but still they are active there," Raziq said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast.

"A bomb was planted for them in a field," Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi told The Associated Press in a telephone call.

God bless the families of these soldiers who lost their lives in service. This activity is in direct correlation to our decision to execute Osama. I am satisfied with the heroism of Seal Team VI. But, will the president who "spiked the ball" several weeks ago also realize that he must also take responsibility of the attacks of terrorism that are now taking place. Will this have an impact on his popularity and will the media focus on these losses of life? Mr. Obama you can't have it just one way, for your benefit. The regular soldier is in greater danger and you must also accept the criticism that comes with it too.

When GW was in office all you heard was to bring the troops home. Obama said he would do so if elected. Why are the demecrats now still crying to have our troops brought home now.

to answer, it takes more than 2 1/2 years to bring them home, don't you know?
