Arundel Cops Target Handicap Parking Violators

A quick dash inside, lack of spots among excuses

Despite what numerous drivers running errands on Saturday afternoon seemed to believe, a handicapped parking permit is not a family pass for choice parking.

At the Glen Burnie Wal-Mart, Cpl. Eric Trumbauer snagged two such drivers at once. One woman, teary-eyed and apologetic, said she used her husband's handicapped placard because she was only running in to get dog food. The other, 31-year-old Trina Mendez, was less remorseful.

"There's nowhere to [expletive] park," Mendez said, her painted toenails resting in the window as Trumbauer wrote a $140 citation.

I think we need more cops enforcing this law.

I wish the police in Salisbury would do this.

This is one of the things I really don't like: people parking in handicapped spaces. They should get tickets. Now, I'm not saying it doesn't seem silly at times that there are so many of them and that they are normally empty. But, a perfectly healthy person, should park outside these spaces or accept and pay the ticket with a smile and be grateful that they are healthy.

I commented on this issue a few years back.
So , I took my camera to Sams Club and Walmart in Salisbury.
Needless to say, I pissed off a lot people as I filmed them in good health. Of course I let them know what I was doing.
Most that use the handicapped parking are perfectly fine. I can't remember the percentage , but is was very high.
Maybe I'll do it again , it was fun.

That's something Jonathan taylor could actually do, since he is handicapped.

He should sit in his truck and video those violating those spaces and even confront them and publish it on his Blog.

It just might be the very first time he could actually prove to me, (and others) that he is at least worthy of something on this earth.

the ones that kill me are the so called handicapped that can haul their big behinds in and out of a monster truck whilst holding a bucket sized big gulp yet walking 50 yards across a parking lot is going to kill them

Parking in a handicapped designated space is unforgivable if you are not handicapped. I also understand that not all handicaps are visible to some of us. We assume that because they LOOK healthy then they must be so normally, I try to give the benefit of doubt. I have never been in that much of a hurry before to do something like that. In fact, I prefer to park farther away in hopes that others won't park out there and not hit my car with their doors or whatever. And I don't take 2 spaces either. My car is not new or expensive but I like it without dents and dings. Besides parking illegally in a handicapped space, another thing that makes me mad are the ones who park in the designated spots for expectant mothers. I once passed one of those spots, found a place to park, and as I walked towards the store, saw a truck pull in and the sole occupant, a man, got out. I held my tounge but was dying to ask him when he was due...lol

They are not OBESITY PARKING spots. I see obese people parking in handicap parking this all around Salisbury with no handicap sign.

Whenever the government creates special rulls for a specific class of poeple, it invites cheaters.
The SHOULD NOT be any special preveliges for any group or class of people.
I really hate those pregnant expecting mother spots!

The municipalties could sure rake in alot of money if more tickets were written for the abuse of using handicapped spaces when you are healthy. I have known people who borrowed the stickers from handicapped relatives just to get closer to the door. Pathetic. I am thankful to be healthy and able to walk. Also I don't think overweight people should qualify to park in those spaces. Walk a little of the weight off.

just what is the criteria for being handicapped
over weight a hand nail a speech impediment
they really should have a cane walker or wheel chair
a waddle doesn't cut it
I don't care personally I park as far away as I can as people don't know how to drive or park around here and I can walk and would rather than riding around and around looking for a closer spot
my time is worth more than that Im not on SSI disability and shopping is a chore not a passtime

Ever notice how more times than not the violaters are driving an expensive luxury car. I guess they feel entitled.

Im just curious how the police can write parking tickets on a lot which can be considered private property and not an actual street or state owned property..... that could mean that a cop could come ticket my car if i didnt park it the way he or she didnt like.... just an honest question here people
