You Can Drive 55, But You'll Get A Ticket

Heads up to drivers who use the Fairfax County Parkway: you are being watched.

Starting today, county police and Virginia state troopers are keeping a close eye on speeders as part of its "50 means 50" campaign.

The two week initiative is to try and crack down on aggressive and reckless drivers, including those texting while driving and following too closely.

Revenue from speeding tickets has dropped significantly as drivers see radar units every 2 miles, with roving units everywhere (it IS a dangerous job, running those radar guns). So what do the local governments do? Sic their dogs on the citizens doing 52 in a fifty zone, on roads that were designed and built with very limited access for speeds of 70mph. The money HAS to come in somehow. You'll see the very same thing soon as tourist come into the area this year. "Campaign" after "campaign" by the police to enhance the revenues of our local and state government. Welcome, tourists! Now give us our cut! And thanks for stopping by! But kudos for the guys who put their lives on the line everyday (their words) in order to make sure anarchy doesn't take over because John Q. Citizen didn't put his seat belt on....such dangerous work...

Local governments do not make a single dime off any traffic citation. So your argument that its about local money is wrong.

hey idiot 11:02, local governments have no benefit of issuing speeding tickets except to reduce speed. The revenue goes to the state to never be seen again. But thank you for your almost well thought out dig.

Hey 8:08 and idiot 9:29-It's about the money stupid. Everything the government does is about control or money.
