WE NEED TO FIGHT FOR THE SCHOOLS TO POST AN AFTER SCHOOL EMERGENCY NUMBER ON THEIR WEBSITE!!!

My son is involved w/ the SADD group after school on Wed's and is always home off the bus by 5:00. He wasn't home by 5:10, I started to worry. 5:20 i started to panic. 5:30, i had all the neighbors here. By 5:45, I had the cops here. I had called his school, the principal at home, vice principal at home, the superintendent of schools, all the neighbors, bus drivers, 911... NO ONE ANSWERED EXCEPT 911 (and eventually the principal). By 6:00... I was in hysterics, and the police were prepping for an amber alert and all-out manhunt. At around 6:15, the bus pulls up. They changed his bus route and didn't tell me. OVER AN HOUR LATE... AND DIDN'T CONTACT ME!! ... all that could have been avoided had they just called me or I had a way to notify them.

you might want to get your son a cell phone for emergency use only.

I would have been LIVID!!!!!!!!!!! I would have done the same thing. I get panicky when the bus is 10 minutes late. I agree there should be a contact # available. I would also get the bus drivers phone number. I am glad he came home safely.

She shouldn't have to get him a cellphone, the world revolved just fine before cellphones! If there was a change the school and/or transportation should have made her, as well as other parents, aware.
Of course one will blame the other so it will show the reason there is no accountability in this world anymore.

Problem with that is, if he were to pull it out on school grounds or on the bus, he probably risks it getting confiscated! It doesn't matter if he is trying to be a good son and call mom to tell her the situation, he is "violating a school policy on technoligy."

I agree there should be an after hours emergency contact for the BOE

Was your student the only one on the bus. If it was that late shouldnt there have been numerous parents worried about their kids whereabouts. Just trying to think logically.

The bus was running late. Wonder if that Daily Times delivery person took a crap in the bus floor and they had to stop and clean it up???Wonder who? Wonder why? What's the answer Big John Super School Potentate?

Wait a minute folks. Money is short and there is no overtime pay. Wouldn't you think a dedicated principal would stay at school until all buses have finished their routes? Is that too much to ask? Please just an extra 30 to 45 minutes? For the safety of the kids? If it saves just one life wouldn't it be worth it? Hope you will consider it? Look at how much we as parents support you and our school. You always ask us to support the school budget. Maybe a little something in return. Please Mr.Principals.

When class assignments are sent out in August, a current list of bus routes and bus contractor phone numbers are included. When I received ours, I made sure, as a parent, that I kept the number written down in my address book. Why wouldn't this mother keep their driver's/bus owner's number? If your kids leave home with a friend's parent, or stay over to someone's house, don't they get a contact number just in case?

I also just checked on the BOE's website. Parents can click on the "Parent" tab at the top and the bus lists are on the page with the phone numbers for the drivers/owners.

Contact all the board members, not the central office staff.

Does she live next to the police station? Within 45 minutes, the police were there prepping for an Amber Alert? Sorry, I don't believe it.

Did you ever consider calling the Transportation Office of the School System? They should have contact with the buses at all times and are really the responsible party.

A question I would ask and push, who authorized the change in the Bus Route? The Bus Driver, The School System,or someone else.

the bus driver shouldn't have that authority and if they changed the route without additional permission, the driver needs to be reprimanded.

However it happen, you, the parent, should have been notified.

746am is right. just an overly hysterical parent. it happens. however, at least she is concerned about her kid. not like the parents in the projects where kids are getting arrested at 2 in the morning.

Did the parent say this happened in Wicomico County?

Who are the Wicomico County Board members and what are their telephone numbers? Oh, that's right. We aren't supposed to know. We didn'e elect them. They are appointed by the political central committee for payment of favors in helping politicians get elected. The old boys club is hard at work. Same old game. The haves and the have-nots.The secret society rules.
