Making Good On Our Promise

Last summer, we stood outside a Baltimore County school and committed to expanding opportunity for Maryland students by waiving Advanced Placement test fees helping Maryland families save on college costs.  Today, I submitted our FY2012 supplemental budget, which includes more than $3 million to cover the cost of STEM-focused AP exams for all students and PSAT testing for all high school sophomores in Maryland.

With this appropriation, together, we can reduce the number of students in Maryland requiring developmental education, which will not only increase college readiness but also result in an overall savings for the taxpayers.

To continue moving our state forward and transition into this new economy, we must continue to create and save jobs – and the single most important tool we have in our state to grow Maryland’s economy is education.  We are committed to providing our children with a safe learning environment, making college more affordable, and giving our students the access and the opportunity to succeed.

I wish that too, but I don't think the shore is ready for them.

"...but also result in an overall savings for the taxpayers."

I'm not sure who is making this statement but, when was the last time in anyone's memory that a politician in MD actually did something that resulted in savings for the taxpayer? Maybe George could highlight one in his historical comments (but I doubt it).
