ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The director of Maryland's largest union for state employees says between 5,000 and 10,000 people are expected to attend a rally in Annapolis to protest pension changes.
Patrick Moran, director of the Maryland chapter of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, said participants in Monday evening's rally will walk from the Navy Marine Corps Stadium to the Maryland State House.
Gov. Martin O'Malley has proposed changes to address a troubling $19 billion in unfunded pension liabilities and $16 billion in retiree health liabilities. It would require increased contributions from state employees.
