Union Actors Plead For Public Broadcasting Funding

The stars of Sesame Street -- the real people -- are on Capitol Hill helping unions and activist groups protest proposed federal spending cuts to public broadcasting.

Emilio Delgado (Luis), Roscoe Orman (Gordon) and Bob McGrath (Bob) lamented the effect the cuts could have on educational television like Sesame Street. The actors, along with fellow Sesame Street stars Alan Muraoka (Alan) and Alison Bartlett O'Reilly (Gina) appeared as members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

The actors were helping to deliver petitions asking the Senate to fully fund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which helps pay for Sesame Street and other programming.

Yes because cutting the $500 million we spend on PBS and NPR is going to make all the difference.

How about we stop giving billions in subsidies to the oil companies, since they are one of the few companies the consistently make billions in profit every quarter.

Not to mention closing corporate tax loopholes. Exxon, Bank of America and most of the rest of the top 10 corporations in the US payed zero in taxes last year. Gee I wish I could make billions in profit and not have to pay any taxes on it.

Or hell, we could order one less plane for our military. Do we really need 2,100 of the F35 fighters, considering they cost over $200 million each.

There are plenty of places that we could trim a lot of money, but for some reason we had to have an emergency session to cut less than .000215% of the total budget.

Good points, 7:14. We should cut a lot of those things, AND defund CPB/NPR.
