We must first slash entitlement spending and then wasteful welfare spending to bring the budget back into balance, says James Carafano, assistant director of The Heritage Foundation’s Institute for International Studies.
“Cutting without common sense makes little sense. The first discussion we ought to have is, what is the biggest problem?” Carafano writes on Politico.
“Long-term unsustainable entitlement programs are the great danger to the economy.
Bottom line: “If we dealt with the real problems, there would be plenty of money for real federal responsibilities, little trouble in balancing the budget and reducing the deficit, and no problem in keeping taxes low,” Carafano writes.
