The California Supreme Court decided unanimously Monday that illegal immigrants may continue to be eligible for in-state tuition rates at the state's colleges and universities rather than pay the higher rates charged to those who live out of state.
In a ruling written by Justice Ming W. Chin, one of the panel's more conservative members, the state high court said a California law that guarantees the lower tuition for students who attend California high schools for at least three years and graduate does not conflict with a federal prohibition on giving illegal immigrants educational benefits based on residency.
California is one of several states that permit illegal immigrants to take advantage of lower college tuition for students who attend high school and graduate in state. About 25,000 illegal immigrants are estimated to receive in-state tuition rates in California.
A group fighting illegal immigration challenged the California law on behalf of U.S. citizens who pay the higher tuition as out-of-state students. The group won in lower court, and the state appealed.More here

Okay. Let me get this straight. An American kid who works hard bairly qualifies for financial aid can bairly make it into college financially, but an illegal can get in state tuition. WOW. There really aren't any words. This is totally screwed up. We need to stop and say enough. We may have to give illegals a basic public education, but I say when it comes to college, that they should not be entitled to get in state tuition. They should have to pay out of state tuition, and should not be able to get financial aid from the government. Just my point of view.

supreme court HAD to rule this way. the state law doesnt specify that you have to be a citizen. it simply states you had to be living in-state and going to a high school for 3 years. gotta change the bottom rules first. (or let INS have a list of the people stealing our money).
Simply have INS waiting for them on the 1st day of class. You idiots always scream "liberals" but it is the people profiting off illegals that are to blame. Put down your politics for a second and go after the folks hiring illegals!
The INS can't do anything anymore. Their hands are tied. The problem with going after the folks that are hiring illegals is that many dont know they are illegal. They come in with a SS#. There is no way for them to check that SS# 000-00-0000 does or does NOT belong to someone. Ship them back to Mexico and let them put them in prison. That wont happen because it will cost Mexico money. They only want our money to come into their country now go out.
What part of ILLEGAL isn't being understood?? Deport them ASAP & there'll be more grant money for US kids to go to college.

I am sure that your comment is true in some cases, but not in all. A family friend did not realize he had employed an "Illegal" until the employee was pulled over for a speeding ticket. The cops called the employer and notified him that ICE had been called to deport his employee. The employer brought the proper documentation to the police station and ICE proceded to tell him that is was one of the best forgeries they had seen!!! So how was the employer to know that his employee was infact illegal?
And no I do not approve of illegal immigrents in this country(for those of you who choose to mis-interperate what I am saying)

But when it comes to them PAYING for college in a state they have lived in for long enough to establish their status, you don't agree.
WOW! this is crazy!! I have two children in college and its only by the grace of God,(yes I said it...God) that their financial need is being met. If you are in this country illegal, you are breaking the law! You have no rights to be had...You should not be considered at all and we certainly should not be wasting our tax dollars fighting over if they should or should not have rights! THEY ARE HERE ILLEGAL!!!

2:21, I signed my name, I am not simply 9:22. Notice I said something about "financial aid." That means that they are on the government dole. They are probably going to default on their loan when they go back to where they come from or whatever. I do have a problem with them going to public school and sucking off the public teat, but I am realistic enough to know that it is going to happen. Public school bairly checks to see if you have a pulse before they let you come in. College is a bit more selective. I had to prove I was a citizen or at least legal to be in the country before I could enter college. To let illegals enter college at in-state rates is ridiculous. If you MUST let them in, have them pay the HIGHER out of state rate. I believe that is what I said before, however, I do understand if you have no reading comprehension skills.
I still believe One government card for everyone in America to entitle them to work, get State or Federal aid of any kind where their identity is verified by the Government. If someone cannot be verified they don't get anything & don't qualify for a job. It will take a year or so to get this done. You can start with those who are already receiving some type of aid. This will eliminate the incentive for the illegals. They will either be arrested and deported (a plane ticket costs less than keeping them in jail for months) or the illegals will leave (ok) or they will attempt to go about things the right way. ALL people should PAY TAXES. Then, start with NON-CITIZENS & FINALLY all citizens who are born Americans. Once these questionable people are given ONE CARD just like the rest of us, they will HAVE TO PAY TAXES and live by the same rules as American citizens. No special privileges. The Poliitics won't let something so simple work.
1:28, great. More government intrusion into our lives. Why should I, as a born-here American have to have some OTHER form of government issued ID to prove that I am eligible to work in the US? I have a Birth Certificate, a Social Security Card, a Driver's License, and a Passport. You want to add ANOTHER ID card to the mix? Make the Illegals and the non-citizens go through this crap, not Americans or naturalized citizens.
