BREAKING NEWS

Escaped prisoner near Ocean Pines and River Run near Beauchamp Rd.
MSP sending dogs and helicopter to search.
Prisoner is still in handcuffs, wearing a grey shirt with black writing on it.
Seems to have escaped from Ocean Pines Police custody.
Escaped prisoner near Ocean Pines is a light skinned black male, 5 feet 7 in tall, 132 pounds.
Update: Prisoner escaped from custody in Ocean Pines Police Department by ripping
handcuff from wall attachment, so escapee should have handcuff on only one hand.

There is some doubt as to color of shirt....there have been 3 colors
given....grey, yellow, black???
Search area is focused on corn field and wooded
area just off Beauchamp Rd near the white horse trailer park.
Car alarms have
been activated in the area with the assumption the prisoner is trying to steal a
car for a getaway.
The communication between the various departments involved
and the Trooper 4 helicopter is a mess, hindering the search.
Update #2
As of 12:45 pm the escaped prisoner still has not been apprehended. Helicopter
search has been suspended. The escaped prisoner was was under arrest and in
Ocean Pines police custody for breaking into cars in the Ocean Pines area. I
hope that someone is able to determine how this could have happened. How on
earth does a prisoner break out of a police department jail in this day and age.

Communications between Trooper 4 and various departments is a "mess". Doesn't make sense. They all aren't communicating with Trooper 4. How can a helicopter in the air be "hindering" the search anyway?

I think he was saying that beings that the communication with the ground units and the helicopter and allied agencies are screwed up that the whole deal is hindering the search. Meaning the communication sucks and allied agencies and chopper can't can't all speak on the same frequency most likely.

There is only one way to escape modern jails.
Simply walk out the door that the idiot that runs the jail left open.

1:34 you are correct. The ground units were having a hard time communicating with the helicopter and telling it where to look. Central communications had to relay and it had units talking over each other and caused quite a bit of confusion. Over all, it sounded like a keystone cops deal. I imagine they will catch up with this guy at some point. They said he resides in Hebron. I guess he made the trip to OP just to rip folks off. *** from a scanner listener ***

Damn....there goes all that revenue from seat belt violations...I bet they KICK HIS ACE for THAT....

It's nothing new about the communication problems. The government said years ago that all police would be able to communicate on one frequency for emrgency events. I guess they don't have the expertise to get it done. Many police agencies switched over radios with the capabilities but the towers I guess are not toally on line. A lot of money wasted. No fault of the police they do the best with what they have. I can imagine it is one big cluster fu#% over there. They will catch him though, no doubt!!!!

Actually 3:07 Worcester County has a fine radio system, despite the person who runs it. That being said I would suspect that as usual all the agencies involved didn't get on one channel (some probably didn't know how and others were just too plain lazy or have a MSP mentalaty and refused to switch from the MSP channel). There was once a high speed pursuit during bike week that spanned 5 channels. The communications with the helicopter could have been affected by many things including operator error in dispatch.

Tell Brian Murphy. He will catch them.

How does a wcdc convict be mistakenly released and the public not notified for 3 days. Procedual error. The warden knows what would happen in the state system where he came from.

MSP Mentality? Are you kidding me??? Trooper 4 is a MSP asset. Who do you think should be directing them - the keystone cop local yokels?

There are very strict protocols for MSP missions. It is far more complicated than "hey, let's get the helicopter".

Look at the professional agencies in the area - Wicomico Sheriff's Office, Fruitland - both have recently retired MSP, squared away leadership - both departments have dramatically improved for the better. The citizens of Wicomico County and Fruitland aren't complaining.

More of our local agencies need the MSP MENTALITY - and stop acting like Boss Hogg.

Joe if you had any dealings with the police dept. in the pines you would not be suprised at all about this. I have and it is a joke. I had property stolen, they got the guy, he admitted he took my property and they would not charge him with it. I had to go and file charges. Mean while he has left state and I am out 5 grand in tools.

I just spoke with a trooper who works on the helicopter in Easton. He says the Salisbury helicopter radio has been broken for sometime now and they cant use all the frequencies. They have to use a portable radio instead of the one built into the chopper. It makes it hard to hear and even though they are high in the air it doesn't work well. He said there was also too much talk as he could hear the ground units from where he lives. So much for O'Malley and our taxes can't even fix the radio in the chopper. I would have to take his word he knows what he is talking about.

If what you says is true...not that I would doubt it a bit. WHY did the taxes at the DMV go up so much? Wasn't that to cover the cost of the choppers? I wonder where that money is being spent since its not being spent to repair radios on this choppers.
