Joe,
I read your blog daily and have taken note on how you things done. I have a question that maybe you could help me with. Who should I contact about dead beat fathers who own their own companies and to do claim their true income to get out of paying child support?
I have a 15 year old son who I have not gotten child support for (unless you consider 25.00 a week support) just because his father does not "make enough money".
The last time I went for predetermination they told me he was collecting food stamps and cash assistance. That is just crazy when I know for a fact he has a brand new house an Esclalade, PT Cruiser, and a dodge pick up and just bought his parents a home.
Why does the state continue to support dead beat losers like this? Why can they not go get a job at a fast food joint or something.
It is not my goal to get child support for my son it is now my mission to help other parents in the future with this problem. Do you have any suggestions who I should contact first? I can tell you contacting the Child Support Agency is a joke they will tell you "there is nothing we can do about it"
Thank you in advance,
A mother on a mission

Theres alot of dead beat parents out there who will do anything to get out of paying support for their kids. It's not just dads nowadays it's moms too. Its sad how they sit back and buy things for themselves, and collect food stamps and other money from the state and cant pay for their kids Some people dont deserve to be parents at all. Wish Child Support Enforceement would do their jobs and ENFORCE.
Good luck on that! I have a 13 yrs old and am owed 18,000.00 and havent had a check since 2006 which totalled 21.64, both the state of Maryland and Delaware suck when it comes to helping us mothers! We should all ban together and file a law suit against the state for not doing their job.
This type of thing is why I didn't even bother asking for or pursuing child support with my ex. I've taken care of my son financially and every other way his whole life, no state agency or judge was going to be able to make my ex keep a job and frankly, it wasn't worth the hassle to "make him pay". Right or wrong, it's what I chose...
I usually don't comment on here, I just read but I had to comment on this because she is dead on! Maryland doesn't do enough. I had to do some investigating on my own and turn in the information on my kids father, thats their job! Now I take care of my kids by myself and we are making it, thanks to me and GOd.
being a LIVEbeat dad. ive gotten ripped by the state and my ex and the DSS was very rude to me. i could not live with the money being taken away from me. the ex was the one with the new house, new cars, and LOTS of vacations. all the while, i was nearly starving. so there is another side to this story. to the writer of the post, it seems like you may have the raw end of the deal and i can sympathize with you. so, here goes - talk to department of social services who will direct you to the child support enforcement side. they review the case to see if an adjustment needs to be made. i believe once pay is set, it is frozen for 5 or 6 years (dont remember which). if you are within this time frame, theres not much you can do until the time limit is up unless one of you loses his/her job. based on current pay stubs, they have a chart that outlines the total support needed and divide it up based on percentage of income made. if his paycheck doesnt reflect what you to be accurate, you either arent seeing WHO actually bought the stuff for him (or whose name its in) ~OR~ hes getting paid under the table. if the latter, you may want to check with a local IRS agent for any 'concerns' you may have.
I'd go to the IRS. They might be interested in checking him out.
If you want to make a change you have to give the enforcers the tools to do it with and that means changes in the laws. You want changes in the laws the govern how support orders are enforced - write and/or call your legislator!
I don't know how other child support offices are, but the one here in Salisbury is staffed (in my opinion) with a bunch of bitter women with no clue about what their job is...15 years or so ago, I went there to get a printout of all the payments I had made. A woman in that office turned to her supervisor and asked (right in front of me like it didn't matter what she said or what I might think about it) "do we HAVE to help him?". The supervisor acted like that was a normal and reasonable question!! I would think that, as a citizen, male or female, I would get help from ANY public agency but NOT AT THAT PLACE. They don't properly collect payments, process them, or help women get the money they deserve....I tend to believe they are former welfare recipients who were given a job to take them off the welfare rolls (in a way, of course)....They are incapable, incompetent, and ill-mannered buffoons.
I know from personal experience that if you are a working mother or father trying to collect child support they could care less about you and you end up having to hire a lawyer because they have nothing to gain from helping you.If the custodial parent receives ANY state assistance, DSS will squeeze every dime out of the other party. It really isnt a fair system when women who sit on their butts collecting welfare are able to get support enforced and have DSS fight for them but someone trying to do the right thing by her kids and work to support them cant get anyone to listen to them.
omg,I can so relate to this post. I have a 23 year old and a 13 year old, both with the same @ss of a father..what was I thinking...I do however love my children very much and have done what I needed to do as a parent both personally, emotionally, and financially. The father and that is what he is, because he is far from being a dad hasnever paid support for my daughter and for my son thinks it is ok to send two payments a year for about 100.00. the irs has not given me his refund checks because he claims he owns his own business and always claims a loss, but has bought and sold two houses, has a very nice BMW and a boat among other things, however most of these things are not in his name. I have filed and even found him guilty in court of things and the court even found him in contempt, still nothing is done and he believes he is the best dad ever...child support is a freaking joke and our tax dollars pay these people to take messages and never get back to us..so I have just given up...he will be worth more to my children dead then he is now..I know that that sounds harsh, but if he were to pass, I would get something. I have never spoken ill of this man in front of my children and let them make their own minds up about him...my daughter has not spoken to him in about 5 years and my son will not even call him anymore..so to this parent just do what you need to do, the children as they grow up will know who the better parent is and love you for that
7:15, I agree 100%, I am a mom who is NOT being provided ANY state assistance, no rent, no insurance, no electric, no phone, no purchase of care, no heating assistance, nothing, and I am penalized because some mother who is sitting on there ass doing nothing to better themselves is getting all the attention. Even with my daugthers medical expenses (which he was told he had to cover her insurance) has gone uncollected and unpaid for 13 years. If I was a welfare mom, they would hunt him down like the dog he is. But because I chose to get a REAL job and work for a living I'm last on there list. Several times I have reported where he is, how to get him etc and they have done absolutley nothing! They have let him slide by over and over again.
If you lay with dogs, you get fleas.
