School Furloughs Approved

STAFFORD SCHOOL CUTS The Stafford County School Board approved a policy last night that allows the division to furlough employees for up to five days a year. School Board members have said they don't intend to furlough employees in 2010-11. They approved the policy because budget problems are expected to continue for the foreseeable future. Furloughs require employees to take days off without pay. The first draft of the policy presented on May 11 stated that employees could be furloughed up to 10 days a year.

Since Wicomico County received the MOE waiver, this is not necessary in our county, thank goodness.

teachers shouldn't be immune. They can feel the pain just like the rest of us. They can take their furlough days over one of their extended vacations. (christmas, spring break) It can be taken out of their checks throughout the year so they don't feel it as bad.

since the state made up 1.5 million, now the county can use 1.5 million of their operating budget to fund other departments that have been cut to below operating levels. (like roads)

If the private sector is bleeding employment, the state and federal government should also do the same. No jobs, no tax revenue.
