Mayor Ireton’s temper tantrum during this week’s meeting of Salisbury’s City Council has overshadowed the circumstances in which it occurred. Local landlords are angered and appalled at his continued aggression toward them despite their effort to develop a working relationship with the City to address problems with rental properties. He won’t meet with them or even respond to their initiative except to reject it and demean them. His statement in the media that he is “too busy” to do so is absurd; he was not too busy to do extensive publicity about his first year in office.
Why Mr. Ireton persists in his asinine charade is perplexing to say the least. His attempt to publicly humiliate and vilify landlords has resulted in serious slander of at least one in his “slum property of the week” selection. Barrie Tilghman can surely advise Ireton that he attacked the wrong party in that episode. He learned that the hard way at the meeting mentioned above.
Because Mr. Ireton seems to be unable to apologize for his conduct, much less change it, he is making much worse a bad situation that he has created. The services of an impartial mediator might be able to avert a calamity and possibly result in some semblance of harmony, but that remains to be seen.

Ireton is a local version of Obama, both in his ideology and how he got elected by tarring his opponent with the unpopularity of the predecessor in the particular office, Bush-McCain and Barrie-Bubba, by portraying them as tools of certain "enemy" groups and causes.
Ireton used the landlords as a whipping boy during his campaign and now must continue to do so or look like a fool and forfeit much of his core political base. He has already lost most of those who voted "against" Comegys-Tilghman, just as Obama has lost those who voted "against" his opponent because of Bush.
Also like Obama, his strong suits are media soundbites and partisan rhetoric, especially when he can beat a straw man to death with words. But when it is time to govern, he is completely lost.
As mayor, Jimmy Ireton is a clear and present danger.
As you would say , you are certainly entitled to your opinion. However , I'm not a fan of Ireton , but , The law is the law. The landlords are not above the law. I don't blame him for not responding. Those guys want their cake and eat it too. Ireton is a bit of a sissy , but this shows he is human.
Salisbury MD is a backwards ass town....So many judgemental people live there...Go up Saslsbury
Ireton's strategy is working.
Now, the landlords want to sit down and discuss the situation. But, they still think they can dictate the terms.
Ireton must lead not follow directions like Barrie did.
The promises by SAPOA to self-regulate go all the way back to the days of Mayor Martin. It has gotten worse, not better. 10:44 is right. Hold the line on reform. If SAPOA is serious they will support city efforts to make Salisbury's rental housing safe and code compliant. I have a feeling that their end game is to make all neighborhoods around SU reantl units and rent by the head. It is a lucrative business model that will overtake Princeton Homes, Camden and others. Largely, rental housing should be accomplished in multifamily complexes like Oak Hill and Marley Manor, with a reasonable and balanced percentage in single family neighborhoods, but the bottom line is that all should be operated in accordance with the law.
Start billing them for all the calls.
the mayors doors are always open, and hes always ready for a smoke and to throw down a couple beers after work, right on jim!
I just think the landlords are mad because, for the 1st time in yrs, theres a Mayor in office who doesnt kiss their as*ses and let them do what they want.
