Maybe George could do a piece about Pete's book and all of the contributions he has made to teh city. I hope that people will take time to attend. This should be very special.

I never understood how eastern shore dr. could have been constructed. That street put several businesses OUT of business. There was a drug store on the corner of Lincoln Ave and South Division,Whaylands grocery store and butcher shop, a beauty shop, sign shop and many others. Who had the power to close off south division and kill it.?

My understanding is the original plan was attempting to take pressure off of South Division Street. The problem with Eastern Shore Drive is that the City (big surprise) didn't fund it all the way through- as the original plan had it going all the way to Main Street. Instead they cut the project back and left us with that dreadful intersection at Carroll. None of this is to demean Mr. Cooper (who I respect a lot), as it was not his fault they gutted his total plan for the street.

Pete Cooper is not only one of the legendary figures in the history of Salisbury but was the chief engineer on Ocean City's Route 50 Bridge back in 1942. I believe he will be celebrating his 100th birthday this year and is still mentally sharper than most men half his age.
