Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley has informed Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. of his capital project plan for Fiscal Year 2011. Included in the plan are $37 Million in capital projects for Wicomico County.
Mr. Pollitt announced that the plan includes the following Wicomico County projects:
Salisbury University – New Perdue School of Business Building - $9,869,000
WOR-WIC Community College – Allied Health Building - $9,375,000
James M. Bennett Senior High School - $7,000,000
City of Fruitland – Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion - $3,931,800
City of Fruitland – Enhanced Nutrient Removal - $2,800,000
Salisbury Water Distribution System – Milford Street Elevated Storage - $3,182,000
PRMC – Post-Partum and Nursery Renovation - $240,000
Program Open Space Grants - $175,350
Aging Schools Program - $106,627
Port of Salisbury Public Marina – General Maintenance and Improvements - $99,000
Wicomico County Public Boating Facilities – General Maintenance and Improvements - $50,000
Wicomico River and Port of Salisbury – New Marine Fire/Rescue Boat and
Equipment - $50,000

and how does any of this spending benefit the average or majority of citizens of wicomico county?

What a joke!!
I don't get it. The state is spending A LOT more on the "colleges" which collect PAID tuition than they are on the intermediate schools which don't collect tuition to keep running.
It is the younger years that education needs improvement on. Seems to me college anymore is just a fun place to party.
You run in to these students and I've got to say, some of them are really "stupid". Makes you wonder how they ever got to college!
Oh, that's right, we gave up on K-12 and started teaching to the test instead of teaching them what they needed to know for life!
Put the money into K-12 and start TEACHING these kids again and place them in an environment where they can learn with heat and air conditioning when needed. Feed them "wholesome" food instead of the preservative laden crud they feed them now! That goes for the ones bringing their lunch from home too. Nothing but sweeteners and preservatives.
If the spending isn;t bad enough they are using out-of-town contractors etc who do not pay local taxes... see today's article on Ben. Middle school - a Baltimore firm designed it.
According to this the state is doing just fine financially. How can you spend so much if you are broke. I just don't get it. O'Malley complains about the state being broke and then spends this kind of money on things that the state is not even responsible for. Help me out here. It's all our money but we have no control over how it is spent, that's my problem with this insane spending.

37 million dollars and not one of these things will benefit ALOT of people. We are giving money to schools and hospitals that many of us can't even afford to go to. Public Marinas? seriously?? Equipment for a boat that was really NOT needed? Talk about WASTE! 37 million dollars worth of waste. How many new jobs will this 37 million create? Probably none.
As an employee, can I have my used furlough days back and a nice pay raise for the upcoming fiscal year. If not, I can't wait for the elections.
