Alan Webster - Salisbury Police Chief for Life

Now that Part 1 crime is up 12% this week, chiefy wants to talk trash on camera.

According to Chief Webster he won't resign and he'll be the chief of police until HE decides it is time for him to step down.

Allow me to interpret that statement. What he means is, he'll be the chief until he decides to step down or he'll sue the city. Isn't that how it goes Chief?

Did Barrie Tilghman put that provision in his contract, Chief for life? I was under the distinct impression that Webster worked for the City of Salisbury, specifically, the Mayor and Council.

He also said he doesn't play politics, doesn't even talk about it. What was that he was doing in the Newspaper when Jim Ireton was running for mayor? Is he saying Laura D'Allesandro made up the entire article? Sorry chiefy, she's not that good and that was playing and talking politics. I supposed you could say you are part of those political factions you so despise.

I'll give Webster credit where it is due. Over the years he has asked for more manpower and every year his requests go unfulfilled. Unlike the Fire Department that Gary Comegys likes to fund to the hilt, Salisbury Police Department gets what is left over, if anything at all.

Audio from the FY09 budget session will assure you of who supports Chief Webster and who does not. All the lipservice and media spinning in the world, from the council majority can't dispute the facts.

Note to Comegys, you implied repeatedly in the last council meeting that you did not know what constitutes a majority. You said "council majority, whatever that is". Let me explain it to you. The council has 5 members total, 3 of you (Comegys, Smith, Shields) vote together the majority of the time, leaving the other 2 (Campbell and Cohen) hanging out to dry. The larger number is 3 therefore, 3 is the majority. Got it??? Like percentages, just one more math equation you don't do, right?

The chief said he did not need any help from the sheiffs office he had plenty of officers on the job.
the next stsatsssement was he had ask the council for more money for more officers/equipment and had been turned down.

Do we have enough officers that we dont need the sheriffs help or do we??? you cant have it both ways.

Comegys' IQ ... about 25 .... Alan Webster's interview .... priceless!

Webster is a lot smarter than what you people are giving him credit for.
That brilliantly orchestrated emergency city council meeting for 200K for SPD plays right into his hands.
Get Comegys and Louise to use citizen's outrage to Empower himself even more with no accountability. Bold chess move, but not check mate yet Chief!
Wake up people, move that rally to 3PM.

Seeing right through you Chief!

It is so sad Salisbury is the laughing stock of the State! I use to be proud of where I am from but now, not so much.

Maybe Webster should attend some of Sheriff Lewis' seminars on how to be a competent law enforcement and more so maybe he should just have ask Sheriff Lewis' on how to be a leader and just a decent person.

I bet Sheriff Lewis will answer his phone and be on call 24 hours a day. A lesson can be learned, if the student is willing. Good night Webster.

Joe forget what Gary is saying man, we all know he's an idiot!don't you see what's happening before our eyes, they are using US to hand over to that incompetant egotistical Donkey of a chief 200K with no strings attached under the guise of "We must do something".... Ring a bell...

It wasn't that there weren't enough of his staff on the scene that is troubling, it is how long did they investigate the armed robbery the evening? Not long I am sure.

Oh look it's King Allan Webster of the Royal Salisbury Police Dept. Monarch for life.

God Joe, your killing me to ask me to listen all these umms, uhs, umms, from these idiots. We have lots of money for the fire dept. though.

Webster wants a police boat, face it. It worked for the SFD after all.

I agree. 3 pm makes more sense, now that Louise has moved HER meeting up.

Every resident of Salisbury needs to get on there knees, pray to your God, and then kiss your ass goodbye as long as this guy is running the show.

We will gather at 5:00 PM.

I have heard they investigated the shooting of Gregg all of 2 hours then I guess they went home so as not to pay overtime. The sheriff would have turned over every rock to find these thugs.

The arrogance of the man. I watched WBOC tonight and was stunned.

The man cares nothing about us.

Being someone that is not located "in" Salisbury I have to say it kind of ticks me off that people like me are not welcomed because we are not residents or business owners in Salisbury. The reason I say that is because the crime in Salisbury is spilling over into the surrounding areas because Webster is not doing his job. He has not only set Salisbury up to fail, he has set all of the surrounding areas to fail as well do to the criminals knowing they can get away with harming people in a variety of ways while the chief is sitting on his hind end.

I used to shop in Salisbury exclusively now I spend my money in Cambridge or Easton because I feel much safer in those areas. So his lack of performance stretches well beyond the crime, his lack of performance is causing business owners to lose patrons and decreasing the positive contributors while encouraging the negative.

8:29 PM

Trust me I went by there several times between 7pm and 8pm and there were less than 5 police cars in the area and their wasn't even any police tape up around the area. The scene wasn't lit up and there weren't any officers canvassing the area. How do I know? I live in the area and heard it on the scanner. I knew what was going to happen with the investigation and I had to see it with my own eyes.

9:56 p.m., you'll be welcome at the Government Office Building at 5:00 on Monday. Come on down! We hear you.

These detectives offered by Lewis didn't need to be at the scene. They needed to be out in the hood banging on doors interviewing people and doing follow up. Webster thinks they will all be standing around the coffee pot at Eastside Deli.

9:56 feels safer in Cambridge than in Salisbury. That ought to wake us up.

Louise, Gary, Pam and Shanie are so smug that it makes me ill.

Note to Mayor Ireton:

FIRE WEBSTER BEFORE WE FIRE YOU!!!!!

From the view across the Bay, Salisbury is imploding. Please band TOGETHER and help each other. There is strength in numbers.

Hey Joe, don't know the man at all. Glad you gave credit where due. I have heard the city council wont give SPD any of the resources they request time and time again. I've seen the trend with the politics around here. They dont want to fund public safety until the public demands it. Smaller agencies have the same problem. The only agency I've seen grow is the Sheriff's Office. MSP still only gets 1 to 2 Troopers covering the County at night. Fruitland hasn't done too bad, money & officers, holding their own; right now. I hear Delmar is lacking very bad. Rumor has it they got new cars from grants so they look good to the public (window dressing). WHY wont these governments put public safety first???

I know for a fact, because I am a employee of Worcester County, that the Worcester County Council has had informal dicussions about crime based in Salisbury and Wicomico County spilling over into Worcester County.

9:56 makes a good point. The deterioration of the quality of life in Salisbury does negatively effect the entire region; however, there are benefits.
Last night, my family and I attended the Berlin Xmas parade. The merchants were open for business, the large crowd was very well behaved (perhaps due to a large and visible police presence), and the entire evening was a fun family outing.
Rest assured, we will not be attending any public function in Salisbury, regardless of whether day or night. Why in the world would I endanger the safety and security of my family in Salisbury? Like many other blogger's, we spend no money in Salisbury; it's a shame, there are many good business's, just not worth the risk.
Personally, I'd like to visit the barbershop on the Plaza, the one recommended by this site. Concerns about my safety in downtown Salisbury keep me away.
As I've mentioned previously, the City of Salisbury has become a magnet for violent criminals. Notice you don't hear of similar issues in surrounding communities. Perhaps sacrificing Salisbury for the greater good of the Shore isn't a bad thing. At least we know where the majority of criminals operate, and can avoid the area.

The Chief treats Salisbury like the capital of the shi--hou--. Do you remember what Gov. Shaffer said about the Eastern Shore?

Anonymous said...

"The sheriff would have turned over every rock to find these thugs"

Like he did when the owner of Subside Deli was the victim of a home invasion in Nutters???..still unsolved....you all really like to pick and choose .

Compare the City police budget to the county budget...check the growth in the county budget since Lewis took over in particualr.

Then compare the target rich environment of Salisbury with it's concentration of cash rich buinesses to the relative pastoral setting in the county....tell me who needs the resourse more...tell me who has the tougher job.

Yeah Pitmaster...Berlin and Salisbury are so alike in terms of size and demographic makeup..why, I'm simply amazed there is more crime here...ridiculous

Why are you not surprised by Webster's actions? Most Baltimore county or city cops that move here act like they have more experience per year than other officers. I know one from Baltimore city that is on disability from a gunshot wound in the rearend. he lives in Lewes DE. and rides a motorcycle. He acts as if the police here are idiots. And by the way he was only a jailer and you people are paying him!!! So why not pay WEBSTER?
