STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON THE PASSING OF REVEREND MICHAEL SALTARELLI

(ANNAPOLIS, MD) October 8, 2009 – Governor Martin O’Malley today issued the following statement regarding the passing of Reverend Michael Saltarelli, the eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Wilmington, which encompasses the state of Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore, from Nov. 21, 1995 until July 7, 2008.

“I am very saddened to learn of the passing of Reverend Michael Saltarelli, bishop emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, who oversaw Catholic churches on the Eastern Shore.

The Reverend spent his life working to advance the common good. His good works reminded all of us that there is indeed a unity to spirit and matter. His service in the Lord's named mattered to so many families throughout our State.

Our hearts today are with the countless members of his congregation and our extended Catholic family.”
