This was added to the briefing book today. More last minute, under the wire additions for council to consider, without having adequate time to do proper research, before making a decision. Somethings in Salisbury will never change.
While the city might very well need new dump trucks, budgeting over $100,000 for a 3 ton dump truck is a bit over the top. A brand new Mack with a gross vehicle weight of 70,000 pounds (22-24 ton payload), can be had for $150,000. Will this 3 ton dump be trimmed in gold?
Does it make sense to apply nearly $18,000 from insurance to surplus when that money could be used as a down payment on a replacement? How does the city plan to make these payments when revenue from property tax is down yet expenses from lease purchase continue to rise? I have heard of creative accounting, even Pam Oland doesn't have the ability to print money.

I have 2 Peterbilt TriAxles - 1 has 599,000 miles, the other 674,000. While mine are a heavier class, even a 3-ton should be maintainable at 60,000 miles given proper maintenance.
Well the city is a dump, seems perfect that we need more dump trucks to take away more of the city.
I said it before to deaf ears! Why can't the city, county and state share resources? Not every dump truck is in use each and every day. Let's start thinking!

With as many people that are out of work I'm sure they could pick up a new dump truck for ALOT less. Many people can't afford a new vehicle so why should they buy new ones at our expense. 60k is nothing for a dumptruck. My father in law has over 200k on his and its running just perfect. Maybe they should take better care of their toys.
Am I the only one who finds it odd that there is EXACTLY enough money in their lease schedule to buy a dump truck? Who is the low bidder?

If they need trucks to plow snow why not lease them from the people that are currently out of work and wait to purchase a new truck. Im sure there are tons of people with trucks that could use the extra money.
My 94 deisel pickup is 3 days away from 300,000 miles, and still looks great! The maintenance bill mentioned is not very big on a truck like that. Buy it a new dump body that the salt ate up from not being washed, and get on with business. Treat our fleet like you were running the business with your own money, and this crap wouldn't come up.
For the burnt one" how about pricing up some used trucks? there's a lot of them on the sides of the roads for sale because of the tanked economy and no building going on... good deals out there.

The post pointing out the city had just enough money to lease a new truck got me curious. Look what Google found for me. This is with 5 minutes of effort.
$80000 will get you a brand new 2008 3-ton dump truck with a 9 foot plow AND a brand new F-250 truck with a 7 foot plow, if you are the city of Northbrook Illinois.
According to Edmunds, you can get a 2010 Ford F250 Super Duty for $25000 (MSRP). This is not a state contract price, and does not include haggling. Would it be safe to assume that the dump truck would then cost $55,000?
So who is anticipated to make an EXTRA $60,000 BY SELLING THE CITY TWO 3-TON DUMP TRUCKS?

The Salisbury Fire Department has 3 heavy/super duty pick up trucks they aren't using. They have very low mileage because they aren't used and not needed. The only thing with high mileage is Gordo!

Orson when did the county start using salt. As long as I can remember they have always just used sand. The state uses the salt. I could be wrong though
