CITY HALL
The Fruitland City Council Audit Committee met on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 to discuss the over $260,000 in cuts from the State of Maryland. It was determined that due to the frugalness of our Department Heads in making purchases and being conservative in the budget process, no furloughs with employees will be necessary at this time.

PLANNING COMMISSION
The Fruitland Planning Commission will meet in regular session on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 7:00 pm in the City Council Chambers. Minutes of the September 1, 2009 meeting are included in this mailing. The agenda will be sent out in next week’s mail.

POLICE
Officer Kerr will be participating in the Cub Scout’s Family Fun Night at the Fruitland Primary School on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Officers will be assisting with the Fruitland Volunteer Firemen’s 100th Year Celebration parade starting at 11:00 a.m. this Saturday. The parade will start at the sports complex on Brown Street and end at the fire station. They will also be on hand at the FFD Open House, scheduled for 2:00 p.m., with crime prevention and safety awareness materials.

PUBLIC UTILITES DEPT
Field service personnel continue with repairs to defective water service lines. This week’s repairs were performed on School and Church Streets.

The Meadowbrook sewage lift station experienced an electrical failure on one of the small pumps associated with the system. Temporary repairs are in progress as we wait for delivery of a higher performance pumping unit.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY
On September 25, 1965 the Kansas City Athletics start ageless wonder Satchel Paige in a game against the Boston Red Sox. The fifty nine year old Paige, a Negro League All-Star legend, proved his greatness once again by giving up only one hit in his three innings of play. Paige was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.

Maybe the salisbury city and county
council should sit in on the meetings of Fruitland to learn a thing or two.

Don't fool yourself 12:15. Fruitland has it's own share of problems. If you think no one shows up at the Salisbury and County meetings, come to a Fruitland one where they are lucky if three people show up.
