News You Can Rely On?

If you click on the image, (sorry, took it from my cell) you can see it says "No alerts at this time." Let's see, we just had a HUGE storm roll in. A Tornado was confirmed, trees are down everywhere. Heavy rain and flooding, yet there are no alerts at this time.

OK, it's Sunday. However, I get complaints every so often when I say I'm going to take the day off, (which is extremely rare) and some people write in and say, the real news never takes a day off.

Well, I don't care what you say, Salisbury News isn't bringing in millions of dollars a year, (at the moment) like other News Stations and clearly they're taking the day off. Anyone using the Internet to see what's going on storm wise today was absolutely clueless to how bad things were. Don't send me any more messages complaining because we seem to be more dedicated to delivering you more news and information than anyone else and that image above taken earlier this evening proves it.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I find WMDT to be a low-budget production. They are awful and their news reporters have zero personality. WBOC was all over the storm and warnings.

I turned to WMDT to watch tv and there was just a buzzing sound. I then switched to WBOC and saw all of the storm warnings. I thought that MDT must be having trouble with their signal so I checked the website. There was nothing there. I got my storm warnings from WBOC and friends on Facebook. This was very unprofessional to not have anything weather related on their site or on their station.

What amazes me most is that WMDT doesn't even have sports, so they do weather every 3 minutes on their show. If they're so into weather, why didn't they cover this storm.

WBOC was all over this storm. Jennifer Walker did a superb job. very professional. very impressed. my only question joe is what are you trying to say? u didnt cover the storm either with any warnings. just pictures of the flooding from the earlier storms

Anon 11:16, I got the same buzzing on that particular station for the majority of the evening. Come to think of it since this digital switch my cable has gone to crap. Any time there is a bit of rain or wind the cable breaks up, or I should say, locks up periodically until the weather clears. Also if anyone is within 20 feet or so of the TV there is a horrible noise as a result. In my opinion it seems this digital crap isn't worth a darn.

I have to say the news channels & newspapers around here are a joke. There is very very limited coverage of what is happening around us. I seldom see on scene reporting relating to emergency situations. One of the things that cracks me up about the local channels is when they bite off of one of the Baltimore channels stories.

I live within a mile of WMDT's tower and I can tell you, if the wind blows their signal is lost.

Listening to WBOC yesterday I had to laugh a little as they were advising people to take their remote into the room with them so they could turn the volume up to hear their broadcast until the storm blew over. Do they think their signal continues to be reached during a storm? Those on Comcast might be able to maintain a signal but those of us that have DirectTV can not.

We lost WBOC and WMDT signals during the heart of the storm so we had no idea where the storm was heading. Isn't digital TV grand!

frustrated

6:29 am I agree. We have two TV sets on convertor boxes so as to receive the local stations. While listening to the WBOC broadcast yesterday of a possible approaching tornado in the West Side communities where I reside. All of a sudden the signal was lost and the station was gone!! I switched over to WDMT and they were not even mentioning a storm !! Even the NOAA weather station wouldn't come in on the scanner! The storm proved to be wicked but we were spared from the tornado. I appreciate WBOC's interest in making us aware of possible weather related threats, but lets be real, all TV transmission will most likely be lost during the height of the storm .

I find both WMDT and WBOC to be unreliable. We were tracking the storms on the animated radar and had to do it on Weather.com to get the most accurate and up-to-the minute radar images;WBOC was lagging an hour behind. Plus, they never seem to update their news. They keep stories on their headlines for days before updating. It's always just old news everytime you look at their website.

they took a direct lighting hit to the station, give them a break

who took the hit, WMDT or WBOC?

WMDT had storm alerts on television between 6:30 and 7:00 yesterday. The female giving the warning was terrible. Like the one commentor wrote, WMDT is a joke. In fact, all the news broadcasts down here are a joke. I still watch the news on the Baltimore stations. WMDT looks and sounds like it's staffed by college interns and the set is so dark. The best thing I've seen on WMDT is the graphic spot advertising their news with the explosion at the end of the piece. The editor that did that piece should ask for and get a raise. WBOC is a bit better, except for the "hey, how you doing folks" sportscaster.

hey how you doing folks broadcaster" gotta agree 100%

I would have to agree with the majority of comments. I wanted to add the weather guy on WBOC looks like a drunk. I am NOT saying he is a drunk, lord knows I don't want someone else trying to sue Joe for a comment on this blog!! I am just making an observation, the red face, glazed over eyes, etc.

Digital broadcasts do not fare well in storms...ask anyone with a satellite dish.
