Dangerous Trees In Salisbury

I read your article on Old Growth Tree that fell on a car. You should ride to the intersection of E Gordy rd and Beaglin Park Drive. On the NW corner of the intersection are 2 Oak trees. I presume they are dead being they have no leaves on them. If you look at the trees you will notice they have had a chainsaw cutting on them. One tree has a cut all the way around it. The other does also and has a notch cut in it but they didnt knock the notch out. These 2 trees have been weakend by the cutting and one will probably fall into the intersection when it drops. I dont ride throught the intersection because of that. I dont know if they will fall on their own due to the cuts but the property owner is irresponsible for leaving them that way. The county public works probably cant do a thing about it being it is on private property. I say that but if you have an untagged car on your lot they are quick to put an orange sticker on it and call it a nuisance. Maybe some "publicity" on your site can help bring these 2 hazards to the ground.

this is crazy, i look at those trees every time i ride past there. why would anybody leave them like like, theres a ladder leaning on them also

They may have been "ringed" and poisoned. The cuts are made so poison can be applied. Looks like the work of a Pro, because most people don't know about this procedure. They may have plans to bring them down. They may have done it to make them lighter(no moisture inside when they are dead), or they may just let them rot in place. Oak typically rots from the outside in.

Joe, I have been watching theses fools for over a year. I agree with 9 15, the county should declare this a hazard... I will be the first to respond if something should happen b/c the homeowner needs to be responsible...It really is an accident waiting to happen..Harry Homeowner doing their thing again!

The author is afraid to drive through the intersection because he thinks a tree will fall on him? Did I really read that correctly?

Some people are just plain stupid. Please don't comment unless you know what you are talking about. The trees are in no danger of falling. I agree with 12:54 in that they have been poisoned. City folks just don't understand these things. Probably the same ones that worry about snakes in the grass if the grass gets long. When was the last time you heard of anyone getting hurt by a snake on the eastern shore? Doesn't happen.

This is a process known as "girdling". It's meant to kill the tree but leave it standing.

They have been this way for longer than a year.
I'm glad to finally see this on the blog so I could see some sort of explanation.
I'm not sure if I believe the explanation but at any rate, I guess it "could" make some sense.
I do believe however, it does need to be checked out so that the public will know whether or not the trees are safe.

So you are saying that at tree that is cut like that wont fall down? The tree on the right has 3 cuts into it and the overall weight distribution makes it appear that it will fall into the intersection. I also will stay away from the intersection. I doubt the tree was " poisoned" Id put money on amatures cutting and they realized they were about to screw up. No if the tree "falls" into the intersection the taxpayers will be responsible for clean up and repairs.

I hope you idiots don't drive anywhere near the airport because a plane just might fall out of the sky and hurt you. Why don't you worry about what is really important like Obama screwing up the country instead of something that you know anything about. Get a life, don't worry about a tree falling on you.

they haven't girdled the tree, they have cut off its lifeline... the outer two inches are what keeps the tree living....these people have no clue what they are doing are most of you are ridiculous!

its not the work of a profesional its the work of the indians that live there, just like their make shift addition on the back of the house

those cuts are made to kill the ivy that's killing the tree.
