FRUITLANDERS – PLEASE SIT DOWN BEFORE READING THIS

Our self-styled "mayor" was on WICO this morning with Bill Reddish to discuss how wonderful things are there. Mr Olinde let it slip that the sewer & water rate increase this year is just the first step – the accountant has recommended a much greater increase (about $100 per quarter), but they decided to do it in steps, and the next one will be next year. Gosh, that sounds just like Salisbury.

Ain’t all that growth great in the "town that Rick built"?

Isn't that the same Mr. Olinde that wrote a letter to the editor supporting Bubba Fo Mare?

What an idiot!

suck it up people , things are bad!
Quit the bitchin or get a porta-potie and dig a well!

There's an election coming up in a little over a year. Mr. Olinde's seat is one of the ones the taxpayers will be voting on. Mr. Olinde you won't be getting a vote from my household again. You have no backbone. How you got to be president is still a big question. Think of all of those senior citizens who lived on a fixed income. How will they come up with more money? You took a wide street and made it smaller. Why? The people on that street DID NOT ask for more property to pay for at tax time. You do your best to keep things "calm" to keep your name out of the press so that your banking folks in the big city won't frown upon things you've done. I've kept quiet long enough. From now every little peep will be announced.

Fruitlanders, there are three seats available in the next election. Start seriously thinking about who you want making decisions about how YOUR money will be spent.

One of your UNHAPPY citizens!

I moved from Fruitland several years ago because of high taxes and water bills, I knew this was coming and that's why I moved. Homeowners have no choie but to pay these high rates. Good luck to all homeowners trying to sell their homes. This is all a scam and so is the city employees having take home vehicles.(police included)

Fruitland is a great place to live and work--low crime, a great school system, and wonderful people--give them a break !

"Gosh, that sounds just like Salisbury."

But the great thing... it isn't!

Fruitland is the last place I would live, taxes and water totally out of control. Did I mention that I grew up in Fruitland.

I grew up in Fruitland. I've always loved this small place. Yet as it grows we're paying for it. What was wrong with what we had? I'll come up with the money because I like where I live. I like my neighbors and feel safe. Greg, don't try to tell me how I can or can't come up with the money.

Anonymous said...

Dinosaur what side of Fruitland do you live on? Certainly not anywhere near the projects where prostitution and drugs are rampant.

Anonymous said...

It's obvious the town will be using more and more water.
That's why they call it Fruitland,
fruits need water and from what I hear , there are a lot of "fruits" in in Fruitland.

1:24 Two whole blocks - WOW! Wake up, every city has those problems. What are you doing about it except complaining? If you're looking for Utopia, let us know where you find it.

Anonymous said...

Greg, will you write a letter to my employer explaining why I need a raise? I'll be at the next council meeting with a name, address and a copy of my last pay stub.

Thanks for NOTHING!

Hey Dino,

Can I come live in your neighborhood? We've got great cops but they can't be everywhere at the same time.

Anyone wanna buy a house in Fruitland? Didn't think so.

For those in Salisbury who don't know why I'm complaining. The minimum water & sewer bill is $188.00 now. It'll be well over $200.00 per quarter after this city slicker gets done with us.

Olinde and crew were the same ones who spent months and how much money looking for a new manager when they had one of our own already there who could do the job. Towns have become arrogant and wasteful. The only way to stop the waste and double taxation is to get rid of the town charters and get the counties to take over. It is time to do our homework.

Anonymous said...

2:10 Don't get me started on that subject. They made a mistake. Ask three of the council members about regrets.

Anonymous said...

Greg Olinde = Bubba Comegys

Anonymous said...

2:39 Amen!

Anonymous said...

Which three, Anon 2:19?
You mean to say, they'd regret hiring a city manager that doesn't do anything?
They said he was so well-qualified when they hired him (after taking so long to search so carefully..)
I hear all he does all day is stare at his computer-- maybe that's why you see those Inacom vehicles there all the time-- getting all the junk mail viruses off their system.
I wonder what that's costing the taxpayers?

Anonymous said...

Are you saying to be a City Manager is to sit and play on the computer all day? I'm qualified! I'll take half of what he's getting to do it. Why does Fruitland need a City Manager if they have a City Council calling the shots?

Anonymous said...

No, 3:26, the city manager IS supposed to be running the city-- that's why things are such a mess. The council is supposed to make the policies, and the manager is to carry them out.
A good manager should also make sure staffing is right and everybody is doing their job.
All you need to do is look around town to see that ain't gettin' done!

Just got home from work and HAD to sit down before I fell down from seeing what Olinde has done now.

Fruitland and Salisbury is in a joint effort to connect water lines. We were told it would help everyone. Sounds to me like we're now having to pay for Salisbury's portion.

I've also been present at council meetings where I have asked about the water rates. When Wal-Mart opened up our bills went up. When Uno's opened, we went up again. Today Sonic opens and once again our rates are rising again. Please tell me why our rates go up each time a business comes to town.

If the middle school comes to town how much more will our bills climb?

I moved to Fruitland ten years ago, from the east side of Salisbury. I am familiar with the taxes and services of both. Fruitland has a wastewater plant that actually works. With extra capacity. There is 65 psi 24/7 on my shower head. The State of Maryland annual water quality report ranks the water here as the best in the State. I have had nothing but good experiences in dealings with the Dept. of Public Works. Trees that have blown down across our street during storms were removed within the hour. The Police Dept. has a good rapport with the community, and the Fire Dept. is staffed with seasoned professionals.
For me,good infrastructure and services are worth the higher taxes. You can bitch about higher taxes if you want to ,but you don't get what you don't (or aren't willing) to pay for.

5:50 Satisfied Resident, you must be a council member. The Police Dept. has a good rapport with the community? You must be on drugs. The Police Dept is not allowed to talk to residents, the assistant chief is a moron and the chief doesn't want to make waves. Yes, Public Works does an excellent job. But it all depends on WHO you are in this town. The police bust up parties all the time, but no landlord has been hit with any fines for disorderly house.

5:50 Must be nice to have the money to pay the increase. Not all of us can just squeeze it out of our a$$e$. I did the squeezing last time.

The "House that Rick built" is crumbling? I'm beginning to be sorry I voted for a county executive, another layer of do nothings except trying to extort more money from tax payers.

We'll be back to outhouses before we come up with adaquate public facilities.

Anonymous said...

Go to meetings! Speak up! Get involved! Or this is what you end up with! What waste! By the way, city tax payers pay county taxes too!

Anonymous said...

The average working person would have to take a day off from work to go to county council meetings.

Anonymous said...

Public Works does an excellent job? Townsend does favors so he can keep his job! What idiot promoted him to public works director anyway? Pollitt? If he doesn't like you then don't expect any favors unless you're a councilman. Public works is nothing but two hotheads bossing around a bunch of inmates. Talk to some of the employees. The detention center vans ride by every day carrying a load to the sewer plant.

Isnt there a law for public officials to have to post a public hearing in the paper like in a weeks notice and i believe this hearing was posted in the paper the day of and was not covered by any msm, this whole thing was snuck through and no citizens knew about it, obviousely what i hear 7 people showed up to the meeting and we are talking the water bill going up in three to four years like another 200.00 on top of the 200.00 we pay now, i know one thing when the market gets better i know alot of people moving away from Fruitland.

12:52... don't be an idiot! Don't you think if we could have wells in the city limits we would instead of paying the ridiculous water and sewer rates we do!?!?!?!? Only irrigation wells are allowed.

Anonymous said...

I'd love to see public works removing trees after a storm! It must have landed in front of the home of someone they knew! The only thing I've seen city workers do is ride around on their golf carts weed whacking the curbs as they drove... how ridiculous! Remember the big snow we had this year???? Never, ever saw a plow! And it took nearly a week for our neighborhood streets to clear... because that's when all the ice and snow finally melted!! We get nothing for our tax dollars and YES, we pay BOTH city and county taxes!!!! Sadly, we get service from neither.
