Barrie Tilghman And Or Mike Dunn Won't Be Going Very Far

It's no wonder you're seeing Barrie Tilghman holding meetings just days before she's expected to leave Office as well as Mike Dunn at all the Debates.

You see Folks, Barrie Tilghman set something into her Budget many of you are not aware of. It's a whole new position for the City of Salisbury. Remember Gary Comegys barking at Urban Salisbury in their debate a few weeks ago, saying he doesn't think they've done much for the Downtown area.

Well, there was a very good reason for his being so blunt. The scheme is, Barrie took away $20,000.00 in the City's Budget from Urban Salisbury claiming it just wasn't right for this economy. Barrie Tilghman WANTS Urban Salisbury to fold.

Instead, Barrie created a new position funded with $20,000.00, (hmmmmmm) called the "Main Street Coordinator." The position pays out $20,000.00 a year, (hmmmmmm) and it has been reported that either Barrie Tilghman OR Mike Dunn will fill that part time position.

Tonight at 5:30 there will be a meeting at the Chamber of Commerce and I strongly recommend you attend this meeting. The scams continue under Gary Comegys, Barrie Tilghman and Mike Dunn. You better be very careful who you vote for and you better respect what we do here at Salisbury News because without us you'd never know about these kind of things until after the fact.

By all means, contact Gary Comegys and ask him why he never said anything or brought it up. Then call the Daily Times and ask them why they never mentioned it either. Come on now. Any time something big happens like Urban Salisbury calling it quits, you just have to dig deep enough to know Barrie & Gary are behind some kind of scam.

Urban Salisbury has done a lot for such little money it receives. The Urban Burbon event was great. I swear Barrie and her loons want downtown to fail so they can swoop in and buy up the property cheap and then turn the place the place around to make a profit.

Just another way graft is underwritten legally.

Geez, those are some smug smiles.

I hope you're wrong but am afraid you're right. What a huge mistake and misappropriation of funds that would be.
There is some merit to the idea of having an advocate for the downtown area, someone to work exclusively for the betterment only. It would have to be someone without a horse in the race. Neither of those people.

I think that there should be additional qualifications for this "Mainstreet Coordinator Position" so that some schmuck doesn't get the position. I think that candidate for the position should be required to Own a substantial amount of propery on the Plaza or be a business owner AND operator on the Plaza. At least this way the person will have a vested interest in doing the job well. The person should also have a board consisting several of Downtown business owners to keep the decision making in the best interests of everybody. Perhaps holding an election where people who work, live, own property or own business in the Downtown Area would only be allowed to vote for the Main Street Coordinator?

Even still, this "part-time" position is a little bit unneccessary. I mean really, what can you possibly do for 20 hours (assumed)a week to help the downtown area? At first, I imagine that the coordinator would be pretty busy, but then they would eventually run out of things to do and get $20,000 a year to do nearly nothing. It's just another unnecessary person on the payroll...

Urban Salisbury originally did well, but local government put a halt to that one. Maybe if they practiced a little Laissez Faire our Downtown could be revived!

Doesnt Michael Day have this Main Street Coordinator job in Berlin? Somebody oughta ask him about it.

ALL of this is a huge waste of time and energy. Who is their right mind would want to go to downtown Salisbury? Other than maybe Kuhn's Jewelers, who else is downtown to draw in customers? Antique lovers? maybe. Lovers or older architecture? maybe. People interest in NEEDS or supplies or services? Forget it. Nothing but urine stains, trash, deadbeats, and mental health castoffs from the night shelter. Get real, people - downtown is and has been long dead.

At $20,000, this position gets only $5,000 less than the mayor of Salisbury, yet the Comegys camp is screaming that it shouldn't be a part-time job. So here's the logic: the mayor works HALF of the year for $20,000, HALF of the year for $5,000. Sounds like Bubba math to me. Paging Dr. Hypocrisy!

The hole gets deeper; Barrie, shut up and just leave. We will deal with the aftermath.

Is this an appointed or voted position? If appointed, who is to do the deed?

Repeat this every day until the election --

HELP IS ON THE WAY!

18 days to go yet!

DaveC, yet another "vested" interest in one thing Salisbury doesn't need. Downtown's had "vested" interests. They're called FOB's: Friends of Barrie.

Urban Salisbury, don't give up. At least wait until after the election.

The timing of this SMELLS!!!!!!!!!!

Every single person who is SICK to death of Tilghman's moves to control your city through Comegys, the slumlords and her business buddies, sick of the cover ups of crime and WWTP problems and more...

Contact every single city resident you know to get out there and vote for Ireton, vote for Campbell and vote for Polk.

Otherwise, you just handed your city over. I ain't kidding. I've already called my list.

Urban Salisbury brings in alot of money also from the PARK & FLEA. How many years has that been in existance? In the last couple years that flea market has filled the parking lot on Baptist St. Each vendor pays-per amount of space they use. It is there Saturday and Sunday and is only dormant about 3 1/2 months of the year. It is run by Michael Day maybe he should get the new position he has done something to bring activity to the downtown Ask Seasons Best, the restaurant on the corner, Royal Farms and other points on the plaza.

I agree, Michael Day does have a job like this in Berlin, and recently the Daily Times published an article about the Berlin Main Street coordinator getting a grant to cover a salary for that position. Watch out, next thing you know, a grant will match the $20,000 and the main street coordinator will be making $40,000 annually while our Mayor will be stuck at $25,000.

Add $10,000 of city benefits to that
