Residential Fire In Delmar
I received a call the other night telling me there was a house fire basically in my own back yard. One of my neighbors home on Blackwater Drive caught on fire and I was able to get there very early on to capture some of these photos. There were around 5 Stations brought in from as far as Laurel and you just wouldn't believe the line of Fire Trucks at the scene. I'm not complaining guys but quite honestly, it was such a cluster, seeing Fire Trucks lined up on Rt. 54 because Blackwater Drive was so loaded with vehicles, all of the others were pretty much useless. I understand, better to have more than less.
Nevertheless, the Firefighters worked hard and fast to get this under control and as cold as it was, you guys amaze me!

Was this another abandon home/arson?
It looks as if it were occupied-there were lights on inside and the exterior light was on. I hope all got out ok. Any known causes yet?
One of my dad's friends live in the house with his brother. They were able to get out safe. I just talked to my dad and he says that they think it was a light switch in the attic that caused the fire.
Heard the cause was electrical.
Awesome pics Joe
It would do well for counties to do an assessment of all of the buildings in their jurisdictions, based on size, construction, proximity to other structures, fire control measures in place, assumed number of occupants, etc., to make a good guess at how many companies should be called out for each location. The scene you describe should have taken a couple of engines and a couple of backup units should they have failed or needed additional support.
Too many responders = too much risk and too much expense.
i guess some people will never understand the reason for the amount of equiptment that is brought to the scene. It has to deal with the amount of firfighters that are actually on each Engine. Not everybody lives close to the firestation to be able to make first run. I am a fire fighter and there are numerous times i have gone out on the engine with just three people, because there is no time to sit there and wait for other members to show up while someones house is burning down. that is why there is so many engines cause the other members from the company have to get there some way shape or form to make up for the lack of personel that are responding to the call as soon as it is toned out. So everyone that sits there and says " there were to many fire engines on that scene and that it was just a waste of tax payers money " just think about the next time there is a fire in the early morning hours and there is 20+ pieces of equiptment sitting in front of your house just remember at least there are people responding to help save someones life and property and never ask for a thank you or let alone asked to be paid for what they do.
PS i would sign my name but im not going to let people start bashing me or my company like they do everyone else.
anonymous 10:13, thanks for sharing that info.
