ARMED ROBBERY UPDATE
December 12, 2008 4:16 PM
On December 12, 2008 at 1:35 PM, an armed robbery was committed in the
parking lot of BB&T bank near the campus of Salisbury University (not in
the Allenwood Center as was reported in the original campus bulletin.)
University Police officers were on scene within minutes of the incident,
and the investigation revealed that the assailants had fled away from
main campus.
Investigators are examining evidence and questioning persons of
interest. Anyone who may have additional information about this crime
is asked to contact the Wicomico Bureau of Investigations through the
Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department: (410) 548-4891. You may also
provide information to the Salisbury University Police Department: (410)
543-6222, or anonymously to Crime Solvers of the Lower Eastern Shore:
(410) 548-1776.
I would like to remind our campus community that crimes can occur
anywhere, at anytime. Individuals should always be attentive to their
surroundings, and remain alert to the potential ill-intent of others
nearby. Please review and consider the following tips:
Street Robbery Tips:
1. Try to remain calm. Do not resist. Consider the robber dangerous.
2. In most cases, the robber only wants your valuables/money and is
not there to hurt you.
3. Assume the robber is armed, even if you don't see a weapon.
4. If a weapon is displayed, consider it to be real and loaded.
5. Do only what the robber tells you. If you don't understand, tell
the robber.
6. Attempt to get a good, complete description of the robber, - taking
note of unique and unusual characteristics.
7. Your main goal is to survive!
8. Comply with the assailant unless it is evident that your life is in
danger.
9. Remember--your valuables can be replaced, your life can't.
Report any suspicious persons immediately to the police. If possible,
use a cellular phone to call 911 while maintaining visual observation of
the subject(s).

Once I drove up to that very bank and the "Dunbar" truck was in the drive through. I was hoping they were making a deposit and not a withdrawal. I needed a check cashed. It struck me as very funny.
Now this very branch has been robbed several times. Remember when the "beltway snipers" were on the loose? There were no shootings that day and I often wondered if it was them and saw a guy who looked exactly like Malvo. (after he had been caught, I remembered the guy from the close look I had.)
Kudos to the Police. Hope the others are caught soon.
I wonder how much of a role did the university police officers actually play in the robbery? How did they hear about the call? Were they actually dispatched? Mutual aid? Can someone with the correct information let the readers know.
This isn't a post to blast the university police. I, as a citizen and graduate of the university would like to see them involved in more police action in the community. They are still referred by many as "campus security" and I would like to see that changed.
Was the van stolen?
The University Police monitor the radio channels of the other area police agencies. They heard the call dispatched and responded. They were the first on the scene. University officers recovered a lot of evidence (including a sack of money).

That is what we call squirreling the call, but kudo's to them. They should have an automatic mutual aid agreement with surrounding agencies. They should also be part of the Emergency 911 system. If the GHO doesn't agree with that then she should be sent packing.
Campus police officers have more power than state police. Not only can they enforce all the usual stuff, but they have additional responsibilities associated with a university campus.
Years ago I volunteered to drive the Drunk Bus (Safe Ride). Through my donation of time and getting to know some officers, I was able to have some points removed from my driving record early.
For the second ay in a row we have heard from a real leader with an excellent reputation. Chief Lahley provides information to this site for the benefit of the public safety and signs it. Why cant the Fire Chief and Police Chief do this ? They are not permitted by the Mayor, thats why. Thank you Chief Lashley. You have my respect sir.
Like all Police Departments you have average, good and above average police officers, the University Police have a few of each. There are several University police officers that I would put up against most sheriff deputies and city police officers, the rest are in a profession that they need not be in and should move on.

HUH!!!
What are you smoking? Please explain to me what super powers they have???
Whoe ever stated they would put up campus Cops against most Sheriff deputies is smoking some of the weed they took off of some college kid and never charged them. I can count on one hand how many times I have seen a campus officer in court. I guess they hold thier own court. Chief lashley is the real deal. I dont even know the rest. So instead of trying to insult MOST deputies get your head out of you rectum and spend a few days in the court room. Thay are good at what they do Baby sit drunken adolesents. Hell i would put the Sheriff's office civilian quarter master up against most Campus Special police. No offense to him but lets keep it real.
Have fun with your court hopping! Hope you enjoy it while you’re on midnight shift and your days off, only to have some of your cases nolle pros or stetted. Grow up and talk to me after you have 20 plus years on the job (DC Police). Missing time with family. Hopefully your marriage will last that long and your kids remember who you are. I never read about so much bickering about the local police departments until I found this website.
There are numerous officers that post in this blog and blast other agencies. Your agencies work for the same common cause, just in different environments. Show some respect for your fellow colleagues in other departments. It doesn’t matter what color uniform you wear or which department you work for (city, county, state, university, natural resources, transportation, just to name a few); because you are still a police officer and you still put your life on the line as long as wear a badge and a gun. The criminal who intends to do you harm doesn’t care what department you work for, he only see the badge and gun.
Be safe out there and respect each other. Because there isn't any respect on the street.
Academic penalties could hurt them more than any citation. I believe that the SSU staff and security should police a lot of things that only tie up other law enforcment.
With exception of robbery, destruction of property, assault or any violent actions or sex crimes should be turned over to higher authorites. A fine and some kind of grade reduction for minor crimes, a grade redution may hurt them in so many ways they'd wished the police picked them up.
Here's what should be the guidelines for armed robbery:
1. See Criminal
2. Draw concealed handgun
3. Lift Gun
4. Tighten index finger
5. Tighten index finger again
6. If criminal has fallen to the ground, it may be important to tighten finger two or three more times...just to make sure.
More cop bashing??? Figures, frequent here in Wicomico! Sad it's mostly done by other cops.
2:20. Maybe you should take a few classes at Salisbury University, because your writing skills are that of an eighth grader. You probably only have a high school diploma or GED.
