I Love Salisbury Clean-Up

It was a cold & windy day on Sunday but that didn't stop a multitude of Volunteers from the Camden Community and Salisbury University Students from coming together for the good of the neighborhood. Letters went out to the neighborhood weeks in advance asking if they needed ANY help whatsoever around the home in which they couldn't accomplish on their own. Today this large group took to the streets and started cleaning up whatever anyone wanted or needed done for those who responded to the letters.

Some of the key people involved in driving this project today were Pat Gotham & Councilwoman Debbie Campbell. The key people that made this a true success was the 100+ SU Students who unconditionally took their times going from one home to another doing everything the Camden Residents asked.

Pride of Ownership in any community is very important and as we grow older certain projects become more difficult to accomplish. Without these wonderful Students, many of these homes would spend yet another year without proper maintenance and this attracts criminal activity.

I have to say that seeing these kids out helping yesterday warmed my cold cynical heart. My daughter and I walked downtown to snap some pictures for a school project--the plaza has such great potential and wonderful buildings, with the right administration who knows? The condition on the plaza are really deplorable, disprepair and the bricks are being ravaged by vehicle traffic, all those that whine about your "obsession" with the plaza just don't get it. Thanks to the people who really care about Salisbury and great work SU students!!

Kudos to all and thanks to SSU students for showing what they are made of, caring citizens. A small step for man, a giant leap for mankind.

Is this an ongoing thing in ALL of the city's neighborhoods, or just one?

Way to go, students! I saw you out there in the cold and the wind, and I was really impressed. You really gave of yourselves and helped out some folks who could use it. We are really proud of you.

This is a giant step to improving community relations. These kids and residents had the golden opportunity to spend real quality time helping one another. Hopefully, the students learned something from those they helped and the residents learned something from the students. I learned that nothing is impossible, even in Salisbury.

Say what you will about Debbie Campbell and others involved in the Camden area, at least they put forth the effort, not just spew words. Way to go, Debbie, (and probably Terry Cohen, Jim Ireton, and others), and the SU students.

You can say what you want but we need more of that so we can get to know these students who care. Get to know them as good stewards, we we should all be thankful in times like these that SSU provides a lot of jobs and the students spend a lot of money. Without SSU and the hospital there would be a lot of umemployed people. There's good people everywhere, I was young once, it was nice.
