These animals can be adopted at the Wicomico Humane Society. Salisbury News will be starting a new series showing animals that are available weekly through the Humane Society. You won't have to leave your home/office to see what's available. Simply show the Family what's available and once you see something you like, head on in and visit the animal of your choice and take one home.

I've enjoyed the company of 3 pure bred golden retrievers which were all great companions but all had problems specific to their breed. I now have a "pound mut" which has been the greatest dog ever. Mixed breeds don't have all the problems usually associated with pure breds and seem to be much more devoted and intelligent. I would highly recommend a "mut" (it's o.k., he knows he's a mut and he accepts it!) to anyone looking to adopt. Give these dogs a chance before it's too late.
Thanks, sbynews.com, for further exposing these specific animals to potential "pet parents". I've tried to monitor the human society website, considering adding to our "family", without success. Since the facility is somewhat out of the way, you'd think they would keep the photo's on their sit up to date.
Thanks for posting these! It is a true community service. I'm not sure if you've changed or the Humane Society has changed, but the new cooperative relationship does credit to all of you.

I recently met Linda Lugo at the Responsible Dog Ownership event. I was talking with a friend about my husband having to put his dog down over a year ago and how he has grieved ever since. Linda Lugo offered to network with other humane societies to find a dog that would suit him. Within 2 hours she had found a prospect. Unfortunately it didn't work out, through no fault of Linda's or the person that was keeping the dog at the time, it was just one of those things that wasn't meant to be.
This past Thursday around 3pm I got a call from Linda Lugo saying she had a small dog that might work out well so I ran on down to the pound to see what she had. Turns out she had a 5 year old Min Pin mix chunk of a dog. Cutest thing you've ever seen. She let me bring the dog home to see if she and my husband would work out together. It was like Christmas when he got home and saw Squirt (that's her name). She had a big smile for him on first sight, that's all it took, he was putty in her paws. Bedtime came and there she is laying right up there like she'd always been there, as content as she could be. She had been spayed, shots up to date, house broken, great with our grand-kids, and she loves my husband to death. The only problem we've had with her is eating. She won't eat dry food, doesn't care much for canned food but will chow down on people food if I let her. Chunky as she is, Linda guessed her diet was probably table scraps, I think she was right. LOL Oh, and she doesn't bark, well not much anyway. She's let out a little yip here and there but nothing like his little chihuahua.
Anyway, there is a happy ending for this little mutt. She'll have a home with us as long as she lives and trust me, he'll spoil her rotten. We've always had dogs we rescued either from the side of the road or the pound and they have always been great pets. I know we won't regret this rescue one bit.
Linda, if you are reading this...THANK YOU! I'll be in Tuesday to do whatever paperwork is necessary to keep her.
