The Other Side

"Hi Joe,

We met a while back at a public meeting regarding potential flooding in Salisbury...not sure if you remember?

Anyway, I'm a regular reader of your blog. While I disagree with the tone in many of your postings, I think you are providing a public service by helping to make local elected officials accountable to citizens. That is a critical requirement of a representative democracy - one that our traditional media often fails to accomplish.

I know you are supporting McCain for POTUS, but I wondered if you might be interested in posting an alternative, but conservative, viewpoint.

The following is an excellent summary of why conservatives might be better off voting for Obama...this from the former editor of the National Review.

http://www.dmagazine.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?nm=Core+Pages&type=gen&mod=Core+Pages&tier=3&gid=B33A5C6E2CF04C9596A3EF81822D9F8E

I think this is the key two paragraphs:
-----------
Today it is conservatives, not liberals, who talk with alarming bellicosity about making the world “safe for democracy.” It is John McCain who says America’s job is to “defeat evil,” a theological expansion of the nation’s mission that would make George Washington cough out his wooden teeth.

This kind of conservatism, which is not conservative at all, has produced financial mismanagement, the waste of human lives, the loss of moral authority, and the wreckage of our economy that McCain now threatens to make worse.
----------

I doubt this conservative's opinion would sway too many votes from the folks who comment on your blog (many of them seem simply rabid, or racist, or both). However, it might create a fair bit of discussion...I know you like to "stir things up" now and then."

I read your article and frankly I was not too impressed. What I see is one line that was taken out of context. My biggest concern for the moment about electing someone like Obama is his choices of the people he surrounds himself with. Lets look at his economic advisors Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson. These guys are former CEO's for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac of which both of them are waist to neck deep in the mortgage debacle. Are these the guys you really want to help out with the countries economics? What you will have is another way for these guys to pad their wallets on tax payer’s money.

This article does not indulge in Obama's record or the Democratic record when they control the Congress. Obama will not say how his record is very liberal and anti - America's
Constitution. He sugar coats his agenda to mislead people. Obama will not talk about how the Democrats have done nothiing the last two years they have had control of Congress. All they want to do is blame Republicans. If Obama and the Democrats are so great why have they done nothing? If a bill comes up for a vote they add add add to water it down or destroy the purpose by amendments of their desires. Why would anyone including a staunch Democrat vote for a Liberal Democrat? They have showed they are a do nothing party and want to blame others instead of doing the right thing and make the impression that their ideas or always the best. I am an Independent voter so you can not say or accuse me of being a Conservative Republican. I am not binded by partisan politics. I see the facts.

Shows how much you know, Grasshopper. Read some real history; George Washington NEVER had "wooden teeth!"

Thomas Augustus Littleton is right, Washington never had wooden dentures.

In fact, his actual, real life dentures can be seen live and in person should you choose to visit the exciting (.....) exhibit at the National Museum of Dentistry in downton Baltimore. My wife is a student at UMD Dental, that is the only reason I know this. Here is a link to a picture of Washington's dentures.

In 2005 laser scans were used to determine that dentures were actually made of: gold, ivory, lead, and human & animal teeth (horse and donkey).

There you have it!
