Famous Dave's Finally Opens
I haven't had the time to visit this new restaurant but I was told by a reliable friend they they were invited and couldn't believe how great the quality of food they served. It looks and sounds like Salisbury has a winner here.

wait until they start hiring some of the locals...the place will quickly turn into a crap hole
Actually, for your information - 95% of the staff is from the local area. All of these persons went through training this past week and invited friends, family and local community members in on Friday and Saturday to test out their "Famous" skills. The restaurant, bar and to-go open to the public today - I suggest you stop by because Joe's friend was right - the food was DELICIOUS. See you all there!
You are right about that anon 702AM. Its hard to find locals that really want to work - mainly the young people in high school or right out of school. A friend of mine who shops at Giant told me this weekend that all of the 1 percent milk in the cooler was five days out of date. The "youngster" who was working in that dept looked at her like she was from MARS when she brought it to his attention. He went and got her up to date Milk but never even bothered taking out the dated Milk. They just dont CARE! if you ask them to work extra hours, they also look at you like you are crazy. They have things to do like get home to their computer, text message or meet up with friends. Work - forget that! Good luck Daves in finding the ones who REALLY do want to work and make money on their own.
why are you excited about franchise restaurants? you might be from ny but you're just like all the other salisbury people. you know nothing about food and quality.
Salisbury doesn't care about quality. Fudd Rucker's was quality, but that went bye bye.
Red Lobster gets more business than local seafood restaurants. I'm not sayibg this establishment is bad, but the local shore seafood is much better.
The kids are a product of the family they came from. My kids workhard at everything they do. B's are good enough for them in school, they want straight A's. They work hard at every job they do and have manners and know how to use them.
If you have children working in our community, please teach them about respect. About customer service. About working hard. About sincerity.
I know there are other good kids out their, but they are few in numbers.
It's not just the kids, it's also the depressed loser managers who hate their jobs and don't care about any customer. they want to put in their time (like work is a jail sentence) and collect their paycheck.
Fudd's is gone because the owners/operators did not care about the quality of food...the were more concerned about the Flea market sales they tried to generate by selling advertising signs and other junk instead of a quality product. Go to the Fudd's in Annapolis some time and count how many peeps from Salisbury are in there !
Personally I never cared for Fudds. It thought it was overpriced for the quality. I wish we could get more "local" restaurants vs. franchises as well but it seems all of those are owned by foreigners who don't know how to cook American food. I went to one of the Famous Daves samplings, their ribs were pretty good but they are not as good as Adams Ribs in Fruitland, in my opinion. I'm still looking forward to eating at this establishment though, we'll see how long the quality stays up. It seems that this is the area in which almost all the restaurants that go under succumb to. It's ashame. As far as Red Lobster, they need to add on to their building to accommodate more people. I refuse to wait an hour to be seated at ANY restaurant. They are just not that good.
If you want to try a great restaurant, go to Station 7 in Pittsville. It's locally owned and fabulous food. Quit talking and show you enjoy locally owned restaurants. I had their Brisque, (sp?) this past weekend and honest to God it was to die for. You could chew it with your tongue!
This is for the person who generalized all of the local resturalnt staff into one lazy worthless group. I wait tables and bartend in the area. I could generalize all the eastern shore customers as well done, non tipping , rednecks. But i no that isnt true. In every resturant you will have some bad servers. Blame management for poor training, or for keeping them employed. I Graduated from Salisbury University with a double major and a minor, yet with the lack of business related jobs around here i make much more doing this then using my degree.
Please support Restaurant Week this coming week (October 6-12). It is the result of several locally owned and operated mostly non-franchise restaurants getting together (LORA). They will have special menus and special pricing for the week. These are the restaurants in Salisbury we need to support (obtained from the website): Adam's, Break Time, Cactus Taverna, Chef Fred's, Flannery's, Lombardi's, Market Street Inn, Old West, Sobo's, Vinny's La Roma, Waterman's Seafood, Zia's. Please, Joe, post more about this event. I am not involved so don't have the info handy, but I am a proud supporter of the non-franchises. I understand they have a harder time with advertising and buying discounts, among other struggles. And I know almost all of the owners of those places and am a huge fan of Ahmad from Cactus, Vinny from La Roma and Rob from Market Street.
don't forget city bistro, they have really good food. and the local sushi places like kanpai. and the new place on snow hill - back street grill - very good & friendly.
Joe - I think people misunderstood my previous comment regarding this workforce at Famous Dave's... or at least it appears that Anon 8:40 AM did. So far I believe the staff to be hard working - of course there are some that are just slower than others. Although this is is my first time being employed by a restaurant I have found that Famous Dave's to be intensely committed to customer service. If you have a problem while dining there - tell someone and I guarantee you will see action!
Additionally, I am all about supporting LORA and enjoy many of the locally owned restaurants and hope your readers do as well! I must say that everyone should know that if you research Famous Dave's you will find out that this restaurant started with one man in a small town like our own. The Salisbury Famous Dave's is a corporately owned location and not a franchise so I expect the service to stay at a high level of customer service and great food.
Kudos Anon 1:12 PM...I too am a graduate of the University and find that working in the restaurant has been much more rewarding in all aspects....and less chance of layoff as well.
P.S. Try the Devil Spit Burger - it's my favorite!
Famous Dave's is mmm mmm good!!! We love the one across the Bay in Annapolis and are so glad we finally have one here! I know where dinner is going to be tomorrow... yummie! :P

Station 7 is actually already on our list. I've talked to a few people who have been there and they all had favorable comments.
Looking forward to it.

Now your talking, this is how you keep your local town strong.
don't forget city bistro, they have really good food. and the local sushi places like kanpai. and the new place on snow hill - back street grill - very good & friendly.
Joe, friendly question..Do you have a ownership interest in the place in Pittsville?
I absolutely, 100% do NOT have any financial interest in Station 7 in Pittsville.
I sold the building and property to the Wampler Family. I hold no note on the property.
