If you're looking for the Sewage Spill in Salisbury within the Daily Times you're going to have to take quite a bit of time searching for it because they buried it on page B3.
Two things are going on here Folks. Either the Mayor has some serious influence over the Daily Times and they buried it OR there have been so many of these spills, (10,000 gallons yesterday) that it's what they call, old news?
Either way, it always cracks me up when that Housewife gets up there and says, "It's like driving down the highway at 55 mph and changing the motor as your going along." Uh, let's see, DINGBAT comes to mind every time I hear the Mayor make that statement. Let's see, Salisbury is the ONLY City experiencing a WWTP upgrade? NOT! This is going on all around America and no one is going through the problems Salisbury is experiencing.

Ever notice how she gets on a kick of using a pet phrase or word and she just won't stop using it? She's a real trip, that Barrie! Such a joke.
While her and Weezie were grandstanding yesterday on Church Street they opened the "Turd Gate" into the river.
I don't know what the obsession with Church Street is, there are many more neighborhoods that are just as bad and some that are even worse all over town.
It was my understanding that the Mayor had a Press Conferance scheduled and a sewer spill happened or was this the same event with differant titles? The times can go the route of several other smaller papers and get feeds from major cities and ignore the local people and news. They ignore very well" employees, customers, advertisers, news etc. Thanks for your work Joe and all the others involved.

Even the local news cast on WMDT is reporting that this as the first spill of the year 2008. Guess they need to check their facts!!! The only reason the signs where not posted in the last spill it was during the winter and there were no potential swimmers.
We as a family have made a couple of trips in our canoes on the river. They were very upsetting, the banks are littered with garbage and the water glistens with the oil from the run off. After our last trip in May we decided it was not safe for our children to be exposed to such filth. Welcome to Salisbury!!!!
I think its time to hold the feet of the mayor to the fire! Can't insure this kind of spill stops then there is something drastically wrong with this new WWTP,or its employees. We can't continue to have these spills no matter how large or small they are. That's why we allowed all these millions to spent on the plant. To stop the spills!!!!

However, Joe, I know you don't mean offense to us housewives, but I really would appreciate it if you would stop calling the mayor a housewife.
I stay within a budget that my husband and I cooperatively make. I don't allow my family to dump waste in the river. I treat people with respect. If there is a problem in my household, we discuss it openly. Hiding things from each other is not allowed!
With my track record and education, any employer would be proud to have me. I have the skills to run a business -- I do, it's called our home, and it's successful. I just don't get paid money for it.
I chose this job because any other I could get around here would only jack up our taxes without much real gain. I chose it for the rewards of seeing children grow up to be happy, healthy good citizens! Not one of my kids has ever kicked a council member in the groin, either!
When the last one is old enough, I'll go back to the regular grind. But for now, being a housewife is a job (I prefer the term "homemaker," but you don't need to get all PC with me).
And in that job, I'm a teacher, a carpenter, a nurse, a financial manager, a plumber, an events planner, a groundskeeper, an accomplished chef, a church leader and more. The mayor should only BE the housewife to the city that I am to our home!

The mare was a housewife who should have stayed in the house! She has none of the skills that you have. She raised a daughter who has no respect for others. She can't do a budget or stay within one. I don't know how she is at the other things you mentioned. So, from one Domestic Goddess to another, don't rag ob Joe because he calls the mare a housewife. He (and I and others) call her "mare," and we all love and respect horses!
Thank you 12:16, it has rankled me also when she is referred to as a housewife. She acts more like spoiled trust fund baby who throws tantrums when she can't get her way.
I would like to know why the City of SBY is never fine and why the State of Maryland never does any follow up on this matter.. They act like it's no big thing, so what another spill in the river who cares ....

LOL to the person who pointed out that the mayor is referred to as the "Mare" and no offense is meant toward female horses!
(However, prude that I am -- not -- I don't approve of referring to women with the B-word referencing female dogs. The "mare" label is obviously a take off on our wonderful accent here, but I don't care for women being referred to with the disrespect of that name-calling.)

Did you see this comment on the Daily Rag about the "housing donation?"
"Oh please! Mr. Dunsten did not donate that property out of the goodness of his heart. He donated it to avoid problems associated with operating a nuisance property. Anybody who has been here even a few years, knows what that place was like before Neighborhood Services and the Salisbury Police forced it to shut down.
Mr. Dunsten is so "passionate about affordable housing" that he lets tenants deal with $600 electric bills because he refuses to put any money into his properties (in the form of insulation or working heat, for example). He also calls it affordable housing to let 5 or 6 young adults live in a property that is intended for one family or two unrelated people. No exemption on file with the city... Oops, that is all his rental agent's fault, isn't it?
I guess we know why his violations, and the recent complaints about one of his properties, have not been acted on. Yay for politics."

The obsession with Church St is the upcoming election. She hasn't been on Church St in years until an election is pending. She wants that minority vote. She thinks the minorities are STUPID enough to vote for her. I disagree, I think the minorities are smart enough to take all they can get from her and vote for someone they KNOW will do the job right, for all people.

The paper and their web site think all of Salisbury are a bunch of Rubes. They are still claiming the overflow was only 350 gallons when we citizens know if it were only 350 gallons it would have never been reported because a spill that size doesn't require reporting.
I think that a group of us, who live downriver from Barrieville, should explore the possibility of filing a class action suit against the city of Salisbury for all the crap that they are putting in the river. I can fish from my farm, but wouldn't dare eat the fish.

We embrace strong citizen enforcement of our nation’s environmental laws and we rely on concerned citizens like you to bring matters to our attention.
We typically don’t have all the resources we’d like to tackle all the issues we hear about, but your concern about the Wicomico wastewater treatment plant is very important and certainly something we will be taking the time to look into. Wastewater treatment plants require strict Clean Water Act permits. It’s these permits which enable you and us to collect discharge information and monitoring data and see if there are or have been illicit and harmful discharges. In short, permits are the strongest tool to allow citizens to protect their waterways from polluters. Thanks to the information you’ve provided, we will be requesting from the state of Maryland all records pertaining to the operation of this plant and reviewing them for possible legal action. In the meantime, any other information about the facility you could provide – newspaper clippings on recent spills, photographs of discharges, etc. – might prove useful.
I want to thank you again for standing up for clean water. With the many negative (and false) allegations being made against us in the local media, its inspiring to know that there are those on the Eastern Shore who share our concerns.
