UnHappy

I am very unhappy with Delmarva Now's Parent Company that owns the Daily
Times.

My oldest daughter has been working there for a while, and during the
transition, she worked 7 nights a week for weeks on end, because they were
"short handed". While some of her co workers quit, and came back, took
breaks smoking "weed" in the parking lot, and played games while work
should have been done. Her supervisor(s) chose to ignore all of this.

She was blamed for mistakes that another worker did, and ended up doing
work, that other workers should have been doing.

Today, she was laid off, due to the fact that they don't need her anymore.
Now, she couldn't take vacation over Christmas, (even though it was take
it or lose it), because they were in the middle of the transition, and
short handed. Now, they don't need her anymore. I don't know if the
hired new people and are replacing her, or if they knew all along that
they only needed her for the transition, but I do know that I think that
the newspaper is not what I thought it was.

I won't mention the names of the people that made it a bad place to work.

I will mention that when she worked at the Pocomoke Office of the
Worcester County Paper for Bill Kerbin, she was never treated this way.
Mr. Kerbin was the kindest most considerate boss that she could ever have
asked for. If he could have kept the paper, and hired her with full time
hours and benefits, she would have stayed there forever.

You have hit the nail on the head.

The problem is Gannett the 'Corporate Giant' has bought up all these community newspapers.

Then they lose touch with the community, heck they should call it the (old Messenger) Ocean City Times because there is no local news.

Then service went to hell in a handbasket.

I was spending $50,000 to $70,000 a year with them, then all of a sudden there were mistakes in EVERY SINGLE AD FOR THREE MONTHS STRAIGHT!!!

As an auctioneer having little things like the dates and times WRONG really hurts your business and they simply did not care.

It took them over a year to deliver 'tear sheers' that we needed for legal proof of publication because the person who did that "had a crack probelm"...

Can you imaging telling an advertiser who has had to deal with hundreds of mistakes that your staff is on crack???

NEWS?

Gannett gobbled up 7-local papers and prints no 'real news' anymore.

They are in a political pissing contest with Joe Albero and SBY news and really try to do a bad job.

QUALITY?

Thursday at Wal-Mart in Pocomoke I wanted to get my 'free' copy of the Times and had to dig through 7 to find one that was not wrinkled and tattered.

The quality of the printing is worse than the quality of the content which is really bad.

From the viewpoint of a customer who TRIED to spend $10,000 per month with that organization, it appears they are working very hard to go under.

Why leave a paid for fully functional facility to RENT a location using substandard equipment?

Tradtional Media is having a hard time but the 'Salisbury Media Group' of Gannett is working overtime to destroy any good faith or business that may have been here for them.

This is a sad story! Its ashame you dont see it as a problem with todays businesses and management. Hopefully this will never happened to you. Whatever happen to businesses (management) that would appreciate someone like this girl? All businesses are worried about these days is making more and more money. Screw people who work hard for you. As far as Im concerned The Daily Times has lost a very valuable person. ASHAME ON THEM!!!

Good Luck to your daughter in finding a better job! Especially someone who would appreciate a hard working individual.

Our media is being controlled by large corporations. The corporations have also taken over the government in a very real sense. The corporations are basically a group of extremely rich people, who have set an agenda to destroy America. Regular people do not realize this because of the "brainwashing" which ocurrs during television viewing. All news is controlled. The government is controlled. Regular people are under attack economically, socially, morally, and legally. Resistance is futile. However, we can learn about the control and the agenda. Then, we can prepare ouselves for what is about to happen. Unfortunately, we haven't seen anything yet.

with the way that youv'e constantly bashed that paper its no wonder that they let her go....i'm sure they knew whom her father was. It was retaliation against you. Do i agree with it? NO i dont but face it this type of thing happens more often then people think. They look at it as i'll get even with you, and unfortunately your daughter paid the price. Sometimes innocent bystanders pay the price for other peoples bullcrap. Stranger things happen. Or is it that the apple doesnt fall far from the tree and she had to much mouth like her father?

10:09 pm anonymous,

I don't think this is Joe's daughter being referenced here. I think this is something that was sent to Joe that he posted.

Joe, if that's the case, you really need to put an "editor's note" at the beginning of stuff like this so people will know it's not you telling the story, but someone else's voice talking.

This can be very confusing. Thank you.

A very good friend of mine told me today she had to go in to the daily crime to see if she still had a job. If they let her go they'll be losing one of the hardest working women I've ever met in my life. Shame on them. They'll deserve the loss of subscriptions on her route if they let her go.

I want to clarify that my daughter is not Joe Albero's daughter. When I met Joe, my oldest daughter was already grown, and my youngest was already a teenager.

I do however have a beautiful 3 year old Appaloosa that we purchased from him when she was a baby, so you might could consider her his "daughter".

My husband is actually a firefighter/paramedic here in Pocomoke City Maryland, and a former Fire Chief of Pocomoke Volunteer Fire Company.

Now, will Annonymous please apologize to my daughter for his comments about her having too much mouth? Actually, she is rather quiet.

In the meantime, if anyone knows of any help availabe for her please let me know.

She is an EMT, and a CNA, and would love to go on with her nursing, but cannot afford to work full time, pay tuition, and go to school. (We have another daughter getting ready for college, so .....) She is very good at working at a computer, her keying skills are excellent. She is soft spoken, and easy going.(which is why she gets taken advantage of) When she was working as a CNA, her patients loved her. One couple moved to New Jersey, and still calls her.

Thanks for all of the words of support, its nice to know that there are some caring people left in this world.
