Well, it's one thing to have an average bill of $972.00 a year right now that will go up to $1,572.00 a year. It's another thing when you're a resident just OUTSIDE the City Limits who already pays 150% on that $972.00. Their normal yearly bill is $1,458.00 a year. When you tack on a 72% increase their bill will go to $2,507.76 a year! The rates I'm giving you are RESIDENTIAL rates, not business rates.
It's one thing when you have competition but it's another when you have a monopoly on a business and you create increases like they have. In other words, if McDonald's had a burger for $1.00 and they increased it to $1.72, you could go to Hardee's and still get their burger for $1.00 and the competition would keep things in check or McDonald's would go under. There is no Hardee's in the Water & Sewer business, so screw the Taxpayer and make them pay for the mismanagement mistakes of the Mayor.
Look, there are numerous reasons in which I have watched this Mayor mismanage the City of Salisbury while the majority of the Council sat back and rubber stamped Developer Reimbursements not knowing what the hell they were doing. If you'll even recall, the contract the City had with these Developers was, IF the City couldn't afford to pay back these reimbursements, they didn't have to. Debbie Campbell challenged this long ago and clearly stated, the City of Salisbury is NOT in a financial position to give back money to ANY of these Developers. The Mayor and majority of the Council ignored her and instead had a 14% Tax Increase on the TAXPAYERS and in reality forced the Taxpayers to foot the bill for these reimbursements.
Would YOU have someone running YOUR business this way? Well, it IS YOUR BUSINESS! It's time to get rid of these people and put someone in Office that would get back to accountability. Get the accounting department back to the way it used to be. Heck, I could go on and on about what I'd do but I'm sure you get the picture. I know my example in the burger business is a small one but it sends the message home in comparison.
You people need to make some serious changes or the City will certainly be Bankrupt, just like the Council Vice President. Whoops, did I say that? In the mean time Mr. & Mrs. Cathcart, enjoy your new increases and showing such undying support for Barrie Tilghman's decisions.

For those who think that a city can't go bankrupt, look at page A3 of today's Daily Slime: City of Vallejo, CA files for bankruptcy.
IMHO the non-residents should pay even more -- twice as much -- as the City residents, who pay property taxes, too.
IMHO- the mayor, the atty, should be assessed a percentage of their salary plus fines to reimburse to the city what it is costing the taxpayors who are the ones ultimately paying for their poor judgements and their total ineptitude in running this city--unless you call running it into the ground as an accomplishment. That they have done par exellence. Don't get me started.
Oh- and council majority- if you are listening and care just a teeny bit---cut the damn pork from the budget!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember how happy Don Cathcart was about that tax hike, what a great value he thought the mayor gave us for our money, blah, blah, blah?
Wish he and his wife would go spend more time with "the grandbabies" instead of pumping the mayor's failed policies at our expense.
Your right on target Joe. We need the fiscal accountabillity we were promised by the weasel in her campaign literature. Same goes for the lawless mayor we have on board right now. Many have also said we need to contract out a city attorney or hire one at a set fee and quit paying Wilber all this money for next to nothing. I'm like Nalagirl, don't get me started.
Cathcart was wrong when she stated there was nothing wrong with the "swearing in".
When you appear before a board to offer testimony, you swear what you report is the truth.
With these council meetings, there are only OPINIONS offered! They are just that. Opinions. This is just a SCARE tactic to keep people from appearing. They want you to think you can be accused of perjury for stating an opinion.
I agree with an earlier post that stated everyone should refuse to be sworn in. This is NOT TESTIMONY!!!!

Does anyone remember NYC asking the government to bail them out eons ago? It won't happen to Salisbury, this town is not nearly as valuable to the country as NYC
Why doesn't every city resident that can, drive a well? I understand there is some crappy law on the books that says you can't? If Wilber wrote it, it can be beat. Even if he didn't write it, didn't the fed do something about monopolies? If you don't buy their water, they can't gain the increase. Cut their funds without regard the same as they've cut yours.
Salisbury and Wicomico need improvements. These cost money. Raise the taxes and let's get the jobs done. Most of us waste our money anyway buying junk food, going to the movies when you have TV home, ,etc. You don't need to go out to eat. It's cheaper to eat home and enjoy the family with privacy. Keep the car in the garage and walk. Most of us need the exercise. I've never seen so many fat people in my life that are out shoppng. Go to the library and borrow some good books. Read- you might learn something. Tax the luxury homes at a higher rate of the wealthy. Monies should be spent on public buildings and recreational sites that we can all enjoy. Why should the wealthy have their own pool or tennis courts? Let's start the draft back up where everyone serves 2 years in the armed forces on a volunteer basis. Anyone receiving social security should be required to volunteer 10 hours a week in some fashion. Why should not everyone be producive in some way. Feed the prisoners 2000 calories per day. This will reduce their energy levels and reduce problems. Those who do not follow the rules, don't eat.We need to get hard-nosed on these things.. We look forward to the election of President Obama who will promote many of the efficient ways of ruling the US government.Every citizen will be equal.Your rich neighbor will be taxed more so that the poor people may share their wealth.A CHANGE is coming. The Great One, Barrack Obama will bring equality to all.
