Calling All Units, Calling All Units

While the Sheriff's Department set up their Mobile Command Unit for the Pork in the Park event, some Officers seemed lost when they returned to their base and the Command Unit was gone? It turns out they packed it in and brought the unit back to the Sheriff's Department. I was told the event was pretty easy going on the law enforcement end.

Did you go? Did you enjoy it? Do you have any recommendations for next year? I have one. I believe the County should fine any vendor that packs up early and leaves. I have done Trade Shows for 25+ years and that's exactly what they do if you attempt to leave a Show early. A $1,000.00 fine should keep everyone there till the end. If not, then the County takes in a few more worthy bucks.

Joe,

Did you notice a particular vendor there. Selling lingerie and adult products. How come nobody has a problem with that type of business setting up at a fair ground setting. Yet, when a business man tries to open one up behind closed doors its a holy revolt of the masses?

Why did they leave early? Sold everything they had? Upset stomach? Long drive home? Family emergency? Maybe they didnt sell much and were pizzed off? Maybe dont envite them back? NO FINES! Keep the government out off it! WE dont need the gov. to dictate how many pork sandmiches we can eat or sell!!! FFS!

I was thinking yesterday while I was there, it would have been nice to have a couple of batting cages. I would have blown some money in there to take a few swings.

Was there a working water fountain I didn't see?

I had another idea. That concrete pond would make for a nice skate park?

There was a booth there occupied by Living Stones Church that was giving away free bottled water.

Was it Holy Water?

I think they should limit the number of vendors. The place has become nothing but an outdoor flea market with live music. There are so many vendors you can't move.

LoL The person that told me about the water said he went to the booth and told them he as agnostic and and he needed all the holy water he could get. He got a couple bottles. I don't know if he really did that, he said the bottles were small so he got a couple. He didn't melt away so he can't be too bad if it was blessed!

A lot of stuff for sale there did seem to be trinket tourist type stuff. I would have rather looked and some great local art that I couldn't afford than to look at something I wouldn't buy. Not trying to knock the event down, there was something for everyone there and the event is only 4 years old I think? More idea's just make it better for everyone, and we know at least the county listens.

Next year though maybe they can get some contributions for booth's that showcase local artists. Ward Foundation and local independent artists.

This was our first visit to the Festival, and we enjoyed it immensely. Saturday night, although we waited in line for a half hour for ribs (they were worth it!), there was plenty of different things to see and perhaps buy. Music was great.
Thanks to all responsible.

Anon 10:05 AM -Actually it was my daughter who drank the FREE water. I called her today and was relieved that she was not "speaking in tongues".I did take a bottle home with me and used it when I washed my hair this morning.Thought that it just might add a little more pepper to my salt and pepper head of hair.We can only hope.GOTCHA!

I wonder if Ducks Unlimited would sponcer a show there during Pork dayz? They get a big draw just from their auctions alone. Be a nice addition.

I agree with you, Joe. Due to work commitments, I was unable to attend until Sunday, and I was very disappointed. I had really looked forward to the vendor booths...but there were very few. The shopping is one of my favorite parts of festivals like these, and with what was left on Sunday, I got an impression that Pork in the Park ain't all that.

BTW, since all the competitors were gone, there wasn't much to choose from for bbq sammiches. Out of the two big ones, one was the most unimpressive, ordinary bbq I've ever tasted.
