Station 16 Valued At $798,000.00!

While Mike Dunn, Gary Comegys and Mayor Barrie Tilghman did everything they could to GIFT the old Fire Station to Bill Ahtes and the Arts Council Group, a REAL appraisal, (not Chief See's phony drive by appraisal) and the building that they wanted to give away has been professionally valued at $798,000.00!

So the question is, IF this Blog wasn't around, YOU would have been screwed out of almost $800,000.00! Like me or not, this Blog has made a difference. In the beginning, I also offered to start the bid at Auction at $250,000.00 simply to prove to everyone this building had more value to it and the City should NOT give it away.

Now of course the Mayor and certain Council Members are never going to come back and say Albero was right. That's cool. The bottom line to me is, they were forced into getting a true value on this property and while taxes have gone up, they need to sell this property for real value and help pay for the new Fire Station. They can also put that money towards upgrading the Salisbury Zoo. There are several places they could help out within the community but giving it away was simply unacceptable.

The ball is now back in the Mayor's court, will she GIVE it away now that the Public is well aware of what the property is truly worth?

John,

It seems I know more about the Fire Station than See, Gordy & the Mayor, now doesn't it? Let's see, I offered to START the bid at $250,000.00 and they wanted to give it away for FREE! They claimed the building wasn't worth a damn, it has structural problems, REMEMBER THAT?

See, Gordy and the Mator already screwed the taxpayers out of $10,000,000.00 for a new Fire Station, so what's another $800,000.00, right?

What's your last name, you pussy and let me explain why. You just tried to put up another comment using the "N" Word and I'd like to meet up with you face to face, you pansy piece of sh!t!

You're not man enough to tell us though, are you?

The City should sell the property at auction.

An auction will deliver the 'present cash market value' for the property.

No more, no less...

They will most likely give it away like they gave away waterfront a few years ago...

Sir:

I agree that the property should be sold to the highest bidder, but that appraiser must be a bozo -- please tell us who it is.

Joe, what you did forced the administration to show it's hand. Two deuces. And you showed them a full house, that building belongs to us the taxpaying citizens of Salisbury, not the mayor, and not anyone involved in the fire department I don't care how long they have served.

Taxpayers have bought and paid for that building and kept it up with more of our tax dollars for a long time, a lot longer than any one person has served there.

I usually stay clear of the firehouse posts but this subject is right on. Current administration wanted to just give it away like a buck tooth, cross eyed, red headed step child. Bullshit....That's our building.

Auction it off like Bossman Hogg said and get every penny we can for it, like you added it will more than pay for the Zoo's new building. It may even mean the city can still be a free zoo even though I would like to see an entry fee of some kind, and one day during the weekend during certain hours that make it free for anyone.

I think I know what you paid for your building downtown, not positive but the firehouse is a very good location for anything. Good job at keeping them honest and we all know what a hard job that is~!!

Agreed - Wanna bet that appraiser was involved in the subprime lending blitz and the Salisbury Mall TIF deal too?

How about a list of the comps that he/she used. I need a good laugh.

Joe:

Does the City really own that property -- I thought the fire company did???

Anonymous said...

I thought the fire company did own it also. The city is going to try to sell or give away something that isnt theirs.

And who owns the fire department? The Taxpayers idiot. They wouldn't be able to pay their bills, buy new equiptment or a new over priced firehouse without taxpayers working their asses off for it.

Sounds like it must have been the same appraisal company that came up with the price of the property for the new firehouse. Talk about hosers?

Joe, please give some credit to Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen who pushed for community input, asked tough questions and more. While Gary Comegys will try to steal the show (as he often does) by saying he's the one who asked for the appraisal, Debbie Campbell still hasn't gotten HER questions answers about data on safety response time or skeleton first responder costs, and Terry Cohen is the one who requested to see the RFP because of her concerns.

You've done your share, no argument there. But don't pull a Gary Comegys and try to hog the limelight. The b.s. on Station 16 has come to light through different parties with different approaches. Hey, I'll even give Comegys credit for asking to get an appraisal.

But that wasn't until AFTER Cohen had asked for the RFP to be held and reviewed, and AFTER she and Campbell pushed to get community input. Gary, along with Mike Dunn, Lynn Cathcart and Shanie Shields, were ready to quickly chuck a historic piece of property that belongs to US as surplus and have the arts people scoop it up.

They'll poo poo the appraisal somehow, or point to the "massive costs of restoration and operation," but the b.s. they've dealt so far should have taxpayers not wanting this to go quickly to auction or sold in any way without the right conditions being present.

This is just as smelly as the cost of the new station 16...sick of Barrie and her cronies owning this town. They've ruined it for their own profit.

I seem to remember Pam Oland at a council meeting calling station #16 city surplus? That is when they they were inclined to give it away for nothing.

actually, Joe the city may not own the building.. The building may actually belong to the salisbury fire deparment volunteers; not the city of salisbury..

Anonymous said...

"And who owns the fire department?"

BUT!--Who legally owns the building? It was built by the volunteers (and paid for) and if there has not been a legal transfer of deed the SFD vols still own the building and property. Somebody better check their real estate law before making speculative comments.

I'll bet that appraiser did the condos on Riverside Drive and Fitzwater Street that are taking gas. Who is it?

Anonymous said...

hea.....knowing this city, the city owns the land and the vollies own the building. take a simple task and turn it into a clusterF'

Anonymous said...

Then why don't the volunteers own and operate the station house if they own it.
Bill Fingerman

Because Barrie Tilghman upon first taking office came in with her reign of terror. Shit canned Coulbourne Dykes, shit canned Bob Eaton, shit canned the volunteers, took over their checkbook and everything else they worked so hard to build. I might add Comegys was instrumental in all of these dirty dealings as well. Just ask him, if he'll tell the truth. That man would rather climb a 100 foot pine to tell a lie than stand on the ground to tell the truth.

Its not that simple. The SFD is under the control of 1 fire chief. (some belive 2) and the chief has control of the "fire territory" So we can own a building that says firehouse and have trucks in it but they won't respond to any calls. (think back to the station 2 controversy a few years back) Also, the volunteers are eager to move. However, they don't want a valuable assest given away by an authority that doesn't own it. I don know that the volunteers are diligantly researching this.

I know that to the outsiders it sounds very strange. The public just knows the the "FD" as the "FD" they don't realize that there is an actual private corparation conected to every Volunteer Deparment. Its the corparation of these departments deal with the assests and money etc etc. All the volunteers want to do is clairfy actual ownenship. If they own it. Then they will do with it at they see fit. However, staying in place and using as funciont station was not even a consideration

I would be very suspicious of that appraisal. It certainly doesn't pass the gut check. But regardless, either put it out for auction, or lease to someone who will fix it up and use it to bring more people downtown. Leasing it out is the kind of gift that keeps on giving....But to be honest, who wants the city as a landord....
