I just couldn't resist. Today's Daily Times has an editorial written by Carrie Samis, formerly of the Zoo. She writes a rather lengthy letter about how the latest "thing" in environmental news is to have meetings at local bars/pubs. The statement she says, "What a great idea-gather at a local pub to socialize, share concerns, discuss solutions-and enjoy a beer. The first meeting will take place a Seacrets in OC in March.
Now I have to ask a few questions. Number one, is that the only way to get folks to hold a meeting on going "green?" I'm wondering if other organizations could follow that lead? How about having open bars in Churches where attendance has dwindled? How about an open bar at City/County Council meetings? Man imagine how much livelier they would be! Of course your going to need to hire bouncers for the occasional brawl that might break out. Just imagine the pictures I would be able to post then. Can you say blackmail material?
In light of what our own States Attorney is going through at the moment is it a good idea to encourage people to go out for a drink? I'm sure Layton Moore isn't desperate to have the business, but it doesn't hurt either. Is there going to be a green cab to drive those drinkers home afterward?
The scenarios are endless along with the laughs. The true shame of it all is that the only way to encourage people to get together to discuss "green solutions" is to lure them into a bar. How sad.
Perhaps these folks that are fighting so strongly to encourage going green should get more involved in the sewage spills and discharges into our rivers and bay. Where were they when local municipalities are steadily running huge pipes from our streets right into whatever local waterway is closest? Going green is more then just talking about it and patting yourself on the back about educating people. You have to get people organized to fight what local governments are doing to do the exact opposite of green. And that should have to happen with a beer in your hand.
One of the organizations that is involved in this going green stuff is D LITE, the organization that former Zoo Director Jim Rapp is heading. These are the same people that allowed illegal sewage to run right into the River polluting it. The MDE told Rapp to STOP doing so and the very next day, (once the MDE was gone) Rapp opened the pipes again to drain into the River and the MDE returned and forced them to cap the pipe. Hypocrites!

Joe another Green getting ready to go forward is that large land acquisition for that park.The one Gary Mackes is sponsoring for a alleged friend who sits on a county board that has appearence of conflick of interest.They are proceding with this with all the problems occuring in Wicomico County now.Same old chit, nothing changes.
Joe. I don't know you-you don't know me. I often agree with a lot of what you are saying and wish you the best in your quest to be newsworthy. I could do without any more pictures of unattractive female's legs, though. That being said, if you genuinely want to take your blog to the next level, you have to reconcile what appears to be your own hypocrisy on the Ruark issue. I have read enough of your blogs (mostly SPD Keepin' It Real, etc.)to get a feeling that if Davis was named Joseph Terrell Citizen, and was caught ridin' dirty, that you would probably want him to join the Jessup Correctional Bowling Team. A drunken, armed misfit behind the wheel is bad enough. A drunken, armed misfit who is also an elected public official hypocrite is too much to bear. Why would you suggest the rest of us can't use good judgment with regards to drinking and driving just because Davis is a trainwreck?
since the "inventor " of "gotta be green" ran for public office & won, scammed mega-bucks from his political position, killed his girlfriend & kept her body in a trunk in a closet in his apartment for FOUR years & fled the country sans frittered away mucho danero, i have no interest in ANYTHING green that doesn't come that way naturally... with st. patties around the corner, maybe green beer, drunk at home.
You really hit the nail on the head with this article and the one exposing Pretl. Where are these people when the real pollution takes place?
These green extremist are frauds who use the environment to enrich themselves and secure political power, look at Gore. Also, Maryland is a good example. There are nine major rivers that drain to the Bay. Three of the biggest the Potomac, James and the Susquehanna combined carry 95% of the nitrogen and 87% of the phosphorus pollution. In contrast the Choptank on the Eastern Shore where all the poultry farms are contributes about 1% of the pollution. According to the MDE, the first 8 months of 2007 there was 207 MILLION gallons of untreated wastewater from overflows and bypasses from the urban areas that flowed into the Bay.
Again, why aren't these people such as O'Malley, Gilchrest and the extremist crying about that? Its all about the money and vote.

Talk about your hipocrits, these two you mention do take the cake. So, Samis wants us to go out and drink, and then see what we
can do for the bay. About all the beer would do is cause more untreated sewage for the bay! This women is as nutty as she was when at the zoo and is obviously heavilly influenced by the Rapp!

Seacrets is the place to go if you're on the public dole. You can go there, get drunk, wreck municipal owned vehicles and nothing will be said or done. It's still winter as we know by todays temps. Maybe Samis needs her windshield washed with recycled green beer, cause it will seem like the thing to do at the time.
For those of you who have never been to Seacrets and have commented, you are all misinformed. Mr. Moore ownes a nightclub that is rated top ten in the nation and I owned a condo on 50th street and patronized the club for years. It provides a one of a kind experience.
