A Year Ago Today

One year ago, Giant closed its doors in North Salisbury leaving behind a huge amount of vacant space and less jobs for Salisbury. If you were with us back then you'll remember all the mold and mildew also left behind as clearly seen in the photos above. Once the equipment is gone you can finally see what's left behind. And the Health Department was where?

This stuff is typical, and has been around for ages -- you can find it in almost any supermarket, and to some degree in most other places, including homes, where there is significant moisture and heat build up -- try looking behind refrigerator/freezer equipment that is located next to a wall, especially in corners. If it were all that bad we would have ceased to exist years ago.

This space was probably unventilated (or had no air conditioning) since it was vacated -- and thus went thru the humid and hot summer so that any minor M&M "grew". That's what happened at the "Gateway Plaza" building on the Downtown Plaza, which has been reconditioned, I'm told, and is now opened again.

I bet a good big portion of that mold was still there from when that bldg was SuperFresh. All Giant did was repaint and redocrate the store- they used almost all of the fixtures that SuperFresh left.
