COUNTY EXECUTIVE POLLITT ORDERS ALL COUNTY FLAGS LOWERED IN MEMORY OF BETTY K. GARDNER

Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. has ordered all county flags lowered to half-staff on Monday, December 3rd to honor the memory of former Wicomico County Councilwoman Betty K. Gardner.

Reflecting on Mrs. Gardner’s long career of public and volunteer service in Wicomico County, Mr. Pollitt said, “I have always regarded Betty Gardner as a pioneer. She was the first woman elected to our County Council and served with distinction for 12 years from 1979 to 1991. That was not the only one of her ‘firsts.’ She was also the first woman to serve on the County Board of Zoning Appeals and the First Judicial Circuit Judicial Selection Committee. Her list of other volunteer accomplishments and subsequent national, state and local service awards are staggering. Her impact on our county has been large and she must not be forgotten. On behalf of all the citizens of Wicomico County, we extend our deepest sympathy to the entire Gardner family.”
