Four Students have been suspended and three were cited for underage drinking!
That will effect their college applications, that is for sure!
With the new principal they have zero tolerance. Isn't it so much fun to forever destroy the lives of these children. Sure does make this Principal a BIG MAN in my book. NOT! I'll bet he's 4' 8" tall and drives a jacked up 4x4 Pickup Truck.

Don't blame the principal. Alcohol should not be a part of any school function. The students chose to act up at a school function and will be penalized. They could have waited until they were away from the function, but it was cool to drink during the event. I dont believe they should be kept out of college, because they are not going to stop drinking. Once in college they will take it to another level. Pay the penalty now and learn to be responsible.
Why should the principal bend the rules for them? They made a very bad choice, and they should suffer the consequences. Hopefully, they will learn the lesson now instead of later when it could be much worse.
KUDOS the new Principal for taking charge, and trying to get this school under control! Underaged drinking is stupid, and bringing alcohol on campus to a school function is even more stupid!
Well Its either break bad on the school or wear bullett proof vest. Bennett is not like what it us to be and it will take someone to make examples of the kids.
When you have kids in school that DO NOT want to be there, it is nothing but a waste of tax payers money and distraction and a dangerous situation to those who do want to learn.
No child left behind sucks, because you make kids who have intention or care disturb classes because we need to make sure the little darlings are taken care of. You wind up giving education away, lowering standards to the dumbest kid.
A JOKE, no wonder home schooling is so popular and private schools are cooking.

Seriously, what is your problem with this decision? The principal absolutely did the right thing. The kids knew the rules and the consequences for breaking them. Welcome to the real world. When you act stupid, stupid things happen to you.
OK, I did not see where Joe posted this was at a school function. Is there an article somewhere that says it was, or do you all just know it was. If it WAS at a achool function I support the suspension... if not then they have no right to be suspended for something that happens off school property. What was the function?

Joe, you said it before -- hopefully these kids weren't driving, too.
This could affect their college apps, but it may be just about going to a college that is not their top choice.
They can deal with it. They weren't expelled, just suspended and those guilty of breaking the law got charged.
Joe, this principal may have saved these kids lives with this action. If they got off, they might be inclined to do it again -- and behind the wheel of a car.
If it were my kid, I'd want them to know, bad choices have consequences. And getting caught at this stage may just keep them from being a statistic and a toe tag in the morgue.
I'd take my kid punished over dead.
Kudos to the principal for showing that rules and the law mean something.
Maybe she could teach some members of the city council about that. I can think of three, plus the mayor.
We knew our principle in Sr High drank during the work day and better yet he knew we knew so let's just say we had him right were we needed him! As a matter of fact after I graduated from high school I saw him & brought it up. After a few questions he first admitted he drank & second knew we did but,let us get away with drinking in school. Oh and before you call me an alcoholic I quit drinking as of Christmas 5 years after my graduation because my first child was born and it was time to lead a new kind of life. Haven't drank much since either.
Point of the article----- 4 were caught, 3 got in trouble. What happened to the fourth one? Probably a teachers / admins family member. Go figure. You catch 4 than 4 need to get in trouble.
I am a student at bennett and all 4 of these people were my friends, one being my best friend. In fact, had i not chosen to go to parkside's battle of the bands on the same night, i would probably be in the same boat as them right now.
All i have to say is that you 40 year old computer geeks posting about what you think should or should not have been done need to take a step into the sunlight. Do you think a single student or adult today cares about how things were run when you were in school? Do you think we care what you think should have been done to us? No, because in reality you have absolutely no say over what happens to students and until you become an administrator you never will.
For those of you saying that you never drank at a school function, were you just losers or was that how things went in the "old days"? Well im here to tell you that the predictions youre making regarding another person's life and how they are treated are based on experiences that probably occurred over 30 years ago haha so get real, folks.
And to the original poster, i dont think a few natties are gonna forever ruin the life of "these children".

Sorry your friends got busted, but too bad. Not all of the "40-year-old computer geeks" here said they didn't drink in high school. Many admitted they did. Those who did marveled that one of your friends was judgment-impaired to speak to a chaperone after he'd been drinking.
You tell a lot about yourself by the fact that you consider anyone who doesn't drink in high school to be a loser.
Please explain that to my friends who lost their children due to friends driving drunk to dances. Please explain to the surviving drunk driving teen how they are soooo coool to have been a high school drinker and responsible for killing their friends.
Tell the parents what losers their children would have been if they hadn't drunk in high school. Tell those teen drivers what winners they are.
Grow up, baby, and get a clue. I have no problem with you expressing your feelings, disagreeing with people here. And you'll blow this off a) because it's from someone older, and b) because those were extreme (but true) examples I used.
BUT...
If you think you're cool because you drink, if you think you are immune to death, then all you are is just another teen who thinks that way. There's nothing special about you because you can ingest alcohol.
And if you think kids who don't drink are losers, then you're just another high school snob, likely into giving and succumbing to peer pressure.
Instead of "got drink?" try "got maturity?" Because if you got the first without the second, you aren't a winner, but just another sloshed teen.
I understand kids will party. But kids have to understand if they party, especially if they are stupid and take it to the roads and dances, there are consequences. Better a suspension than a smashed head in a windshield.
To the anonymous commenter who said that principal may have saved their lives, that is too true. If only they have the sense to see it.
