Andy Harris Votes NO On Slots!

For those of you who were interested on how Andy Harris voted yesterday on Slots it went as follows.

The first vote was what they call an up or down vote, YES for slots or NO against slots. Andy Harris voted NO.

The vote passed YES so they moved on to the next stage for referendum and again Andy Harris voted NO.

Andy tried to move to remove Slots OFF the Eastern Shore but couldn't get it passed, therefore he voted against slots.

I think this says a lot about who this man is. He has heard what people on the Eastern Shore have to say and even though so many people on the Western Shore are for slots, he stood his ground like a good man should.

The politicians only hear what they want to hear. Why would any elected official oppose a referendum allowing to people to decide? The answer is easy - the powers that be from Ocean City don't want them. So these few are trying to make a decision that affects all of us? LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE!!!!!!

The people decided by voting OUR representatives into Office. THEY have voted, that's all there is to it.

On most day to day issues I agree with you. However this is a MUCH larger decision that affects many. Wor. Cty. busineses will be affected by the outcome of this decision. The economy in Wor. Cty. at the moment is depressed. Ocean City has overpriced themselves out of the market and we need another means to attract tourists. There are few ammenities in OC other than bars. The family resort they speak of is LONG gone. I can't take my child on the boardwalk unless I want her learning all kinds of bad language and actions. The only people I hear denouncing slots are the fat cats who have it all anyway. The poor peon is struggling just to keep a roof over their head. The average person in Wor. Cty. that I have spoken with regarding slots(I talk to hundreds daily)are mostly in favor. Yes there are some who are against, but that is why we need a referendum regarding this issue. Look at the tax mess we are in right now. We have trusted these IDIOTS too long with our money!!!
Be thankfull you chose to live in Delaware - move over I plan on joining you VERY soon.
I know you are an Andy Harris supporter but I feel he is off base on this issue - but he is not alone.

SSSHHHH, What's that noise ....

flip-flop, flip-flop, flip-flop...

Senators that voted FOR slots in 2004 but are now AGAINST slots are: Brinkley, Jacobs, Pipkin, and HARRIS.

Notably voting FOR O’Malley’s Slots scheme: Republican Senators COLBURN, Edwards, and Munson.

This comment is from O'MalleyWatch.com:

Hmmm, let’s see, we put slots by West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Deleware, all states that have slots, but we didn’t put one at Rosecroft in Prince George’s County which borders DC and Virginia where there are no slots. Wouldn’t logic dictate that a location at Rosecroft would “maximize the revenue” from slots because it would draw the most amount of folks from out of state to gamble in Maryland. Oh wait, Ocean Downs is owned by Bill Rickman, and we’ve already covered all the money he gave to Miller, O’Malley and the Democrat leadership.

Joe, the peopel also voted Louise and Gary into office in Salisbury. Now they are regretting it. I am not saying I am for or against Harris, but I agree that it shoud be put to referendum. Opinions change.

This is not a simple issue such as whether or not to change the price for trailer registration. This IS a hot button issue being beaten back and forth by elected officials who have changed thier position due almost entirely to the fact that the proposal was made this time by a person with a different party affilliation. If it was a good idea then it must be a good idea now and vice versa. Since our elected officials can't effectively carry out the busines of the people, it MUST be put to a referrendum of the people. This is exactly why people feel thatr thier opinions don't count. I am disappointed that Andy Harris would vote against putting such a controversial issue to a vote of the people.

Joe....I have to disagree with that statement in light of the fact that the people of Salisbury also voted thier representatives into office. They didn't get what they bargained for. Wouldn't you agree that there were several things in the city that should have gone to referendum?

We need industry for crying out loud NOT gambling. I am glad the senator voted NO against slots or any form of gambling.
You want to throw your money away, go to DE, they'll gladly take from you.

I used to work in the state senate, and Andy Harris is exactly who we don't want representing us. He is a cocky, condescending, two-faced man, who frequently puts down others, and is overall a simple man.

You probably worked for Gilchrest. ROTFLMAO!

Joe, not to pick on you, but...

You supported the charter referendum here on the tax hike when those we elected let us down.

Especially Louweasel, who quite specifically pledged accountability, no tax raises, etc.

Sometimes things need to go to the people, and if it were stupid idea, then our founding fathers wouldn't have made it part of the process.

There already was a slots referendum-- when Erlich was elected govenor on a pro-slots platform 4+ years ago. This is a Democrat-controlled state, and will stay that way for a while. They intend to spend, and spend and spend. The only thing we can do to save our wallets is to give them another source of revenue. If Mr. Harris is firmly against slots, he just lost my support. Slots should be at Ocean Pines AND Pimlico AND Cambridge! And after a few more campaign contributions, they will be!

Based on your record I dont think I will vote for this harris guy. You supported louise when she was running and we see what we got. Now you support him and I just dont think I will.

I have to agree with Grandad. Let the people decide. In my opinion once politicians are elected they vote mor eon their own feelings than those of the people they supposedly represent. Would loved to have seen the US enter the Iraq war based on a referendum vote.
Unless Harris changes his stance on slots I dont think I would vote for him either. Its the Worchester county politicians that dont want them, not the people. Oh and the business owners. What they dont realize is that business may be better in OC with slots in Berlin.
And why? I mean slot players will have to stay somewhere... like Ocean City? Slots can only help increase tourism to OC in my opinion.

Agreed with, let the people decide. If we did, there would be no increase in taxes, rent, gasoline, groceries, you name it.
When are those guys & gals going to listen?
