Joe, you've been advised before to run this stuff by snopes or you risk looking foolish by regurgitating spam.

Here's the snopes commentary. Many of the quotes have a quite different resonance in context.

The fact that the statements made were, in some cases, suggested as efforts to repair what she believes is wrong in our country is scary. Her initiatives wreak of socialism and mirror the spirit of the statements quoted. So to put a few sentences in front of or behind the quotes that prompted the suggestion to go to the "snopes" web site matters little. Hillary's actions speak louder than her words. She leans heavily toward socialism and the fact that she may be the next POTUS scares me to death.

If she is counting on the women voters to vote for her because she is a woman, she has another thought coming.

God - I hope so.

Honestly grand dad, this response by you is the laziest rhetorical hand-waving I've seen in some time. I'm not a Hillary fan by any means, but if you are going to make direct criticisms of her *specific quoted words*, and then when the meaning of quotes are revealed to be quite different in context, that's an intellectual fraud.

Don't try and excuse the clumsy sleight of hand in this absurd, fake "History Lesson", by saying the "words don't matter" because she's just a big, scary pinko.

That's just lazy.

I honestly believe that there is so much more at stake in the upcoming election than in previous presidential elections. Political parties have fractured and both major parties have stood in defiance of the collective voices of the people. This time it's about much, much more than party values. It's about getting rid of the people currently in office (both parties)who ignored "the people" when we said "no amnesty", "close the borders", and "let's fight the war in Iraq to win or get the hell out-now". This election should be about getting back to the basics of the constitution and making sure the elected officials come to remember the "we the people" ARE the bosses and we want better than what we've been getting - from the local level to the national level!

Bob said...

Look, whoever you are, I never said words don't matter. I said actions speak louder than words. However, if by some horribly twist of fate she is elected, I believe you will see that the quotes are more accurate by themselves. My opinion - I'm entitled to it.

Lazy? Really? I didn't know I had an obligation to check the validity of every post in order to qualify to comment.

Intellectual Fraud? Not really. In order for that to be true, I would have to be guilty of intentionally picking only those parts of her statement which support my opinion in order to hide some weakness in my logic. The way I see it, my logic is sound and is supported by her left wing, socialist actions. I further believe that if there is any fraud going on, it is more accurately located in Hillary's attempts to hide the true spirit of her statements and her true agenda by adding superfluous non-sense in order to buffalo the citizens - like you. I simply took what she said in it's entirety and chose to see the truth in it based on her actions. I think it's called good old common sense. You're obviously book smart, but when it comes to common sense I think you're a couple of bricks short of a load. No offense.

I not accusing *you* of intellectual fraud, just rhetorical laziness. The "intellectual fraud" I was referring to is the construction and promotion of the list of quotes as a meaningful "History Lesson", and as an accurate indicator of her rhetorical intent.

Grand Dad:

Please spare us that "most important election ever" BS -- the ones in 1860 and 1940 will never be topped.

Bob said...

Dude - Is that what they said in 1860? That no election would ever top it? If that statement about 1860 were tru than 1940 wouldn't even be mentioned. If 1940 would never be topped why mention 1860. Do you have a crystal ball? How can you know they won't be topped?
This election comes at a time when we, as a nation, are in danger of having our founding document gutted and we could be stripped of the rights afforded to us that make us a free nation. Look at what's happening to us here in Maryland....and in the city of Salisbury. Incidentally - where did u get that quote? Not from me.

Please spare ME of your complacency Bullsh*t. Maybe you would enjoy living within a totalitarian govt. but not me.

Personal attacks that have nothing to do issue, including attacks upon elected officials,de-value and void otherwise healthy debate. Also, find the balls to use your signature!

What strikes me as funny is everyone who says that they believe Clinton would bring about a totalitarian regime if elected, and fear what she would do with her power. These are then the same people that will defend the actions of the current administration as if it were gospel, when the actions they are taking in regards to individual rights and freedoms are more destructive and restricting than any other threat ever faced by this great nation.

So do you actually want a better America, or do you just hate Democrats and defend Republicans regardless? And if the latter is the case, then how is that productive at all?

That would be John Robinson. It was so peaceful while he stayed away from the Blogs for the longest time. Now he's back personally attacking my Wife and me using anonymous. That's OK, we'll deal with him.

Joe,

i gotta agree--you need to check these out before you post these silly internet frauds! These quotes are ridiculously out of context, and I'm sure we could do even worse for any of the Republican candidates or the current president! The Hillary haters out there are in such a frothing frenzy that any little bit of reason they had has disappeared. Rest easy, even if she wins (and I'll vote for her ahead of any of the Republican candidates, with the possible exception of McCain), there's a system called "checks and balances" out there. You may have forgotten what it is all about because the current administration has done its best to destroy it, but trust me, it exists. Grand dad has already said in another forum that he doesn't read books, so maybe this is new information? How about reading the Constitution if you don't want to read a book?

I'll tell you what. The minute you start PAYING me for a subscription, that will be the minute I listen to your demands.

If YOU don't like the content, create your own Blog or simply don't return, respectfully.

In the mean time, I'll say and do what I want here, thank you. Get in line and sue me other wise.

In re-reading this thread I don't see anyone "demanding" anything of you. The advice and observations about being careful with circulating stupid spam like this was to help you avoid looking silly, and the advice was free!

Just like your blog!

Jeez, Joe, chill out! You can do what you want, but posting nonsense internet fraud even after it has been pointed out to you that it is a fraud just undermines whatever point you were trying to make! Might as well post something on the "fact" that aliens from outer space have invaded Snow Hill.

I have forgotten more about the U.S. Constitution and the case law that attempts to define it as it relates to various current events, than you have ever learned. Once again you spout off about things of which you have no knowledge.

Did I ever say that I don't read books? No I didn't. I indicated I had no interest in reading anything that leaned toward sympathizing with muslims. What you just did IS intellectual fraud.

Anonymous said...

Grand dad,

Nope, unless you are a constitutional lawyer, in which case I bow to your wisdom, you don't know more than me about the Constitution. I'm surprised you don't want to read books about Muslims, since down below here you seem to express the idea that we should appreciate diversity! So which is it? I'm going to let this be my last statement on the matter because we can digress and get too personal, so feel free to blast away.

FF - I know you'll read this so I'll say this.....I love debate. There is a line between disagreeing and insulting. You seem to immediately attack on a personal level, people with whom you disagree. I would love to engage you in a discussion over the Constitution. But since it will always end up that the end result will be an opinion of the intent of any amendment, this discussion will always be open ended and the debate will digress just as you indicated. It doesn't have to digess....but I feel that it will due to your propensity toward personal attack. We will, however, debate again eventually on this blog or on the D/Times. Talk to ya soon, brother. (or sister)

Hillary Clinton scares me to death!!!

She is a pure Socialist and anyone that can't see that is blind! She will do her best to rape The Constitution and will most definitely tax us to death! I guess her and Bill didn't clean out The White House good enough the last time they left; they want the carpets this time around.

CONDOLEEZA RICE PLEASE COME TO OUR RESCUE!

The only thing worse than Hillary would be to have another Bush run for president. This country has suffered enough at the hands of the Bushes and Clintons, its time to move on.
