SKELETAL REMAINS LOCATED ON BEACH IN OCEAN CITY

On April 28, 2010, at 1:55 p.m., Ocean City Police responded to North Division Street and the Beach, in reference to a citizen report of possible skeletal remains on the beach.

Police arrived at the scene. OCPD Detectives and Forensic Services personnel recovered the skeletal remains, which have been sent to the Maryland Medical Examiners Office for further analysis and autopsy.

Curb At Delmar Elementary

Not to beat a dead horse, but the quick reaction by Delmar, Maryland, Commissioner Carl Anderton along with Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt and Delmar Elementary to help make Mike Harpool's life easier is proof there is hope. This was local government working the way it should- for the community.

In this era of "vote them all out", I think this small victory should serve as a reminder to all of us to continue to pay attention to the people that are elected/appointed to serve us. The "vote them all out" is a lazy route of outrage. While I can certainly understand anger after the Wall Street bailouts, the health care debates, political corruption on both sides of the aisle and numerous other things, there are still men and women that want to serve our communities to the best of their ability. Believing "they're all crooks" is not only untrue, it doesn't help our position as tax payers that foot the bill for services such as police, fire, wastewater, water and trash collection (among others). What this belief does, however, is allow the public to throw its collective hands in the air and stop their engagement with the system becoming politically apathetic. In turn, governments with a lack of engagement from their citizenry are more open to corrupt officials because these criminals have fewer people to con. This is exactly what the criminals in the system would have you do.

While there is no doubt that Joe has clout in the area, I know firsthand that Mr. Anderton has been responsive to citizens when the spotlight was off. If you have a question, concern or a position you want to share with your representatives then do it. I'm not asking a 20 hour a week commitment here, but if your schedule is such that you cannot attend local government meetings, send emails or make phone calls. It's now easier than ever to make your voice known. Along the way you'll meet public servants like Mr. Anderton and perhaps your faith in our system increase, not to blind devotion, but cautious optimism.

Anti Albero Bloggers And Their New Phone Game

Folks, I have received numerous messages/calls today from people allegedly returning my phone call.

It turns out, I never called them, yet they all insisted my cell number was on their Caller ID. After doing a little research I came to learn of a stupid program T-Mobile has where someone can play that game. In fact, one of the programs is called "Jail Break" and people can make it look like someone is calling them, when they're not.

In all cases today there was a phone message left instead of them actually getting a hold of the person called.

I have contacted Verizon and T-Mobile and they are investigating this and taking it very seriously. My apologies to any of you receiving such childish messages and I'm sure you know who's playing these games. JT, JR, TM, BB, I just wonder which one of them is with T-Mobile. We'll find out soon enough.

Companies that do everything from making appliances to selling cruises are reporting strong first-quarter profits — not because of the layoffs many of them used to dress up last year's earnings reports but because people are spending more.

The turnaround has yet to produce a dramatic increase in hiring, which isn't expected until 2011 or later. But it provides emphatic new evidence that the economy has moved past the crisis and should continue to strengthen.

Troopers Make Arrest In Laurel Homicide

Suspect: Scott A. Thompson, 20, Laurel, DE

Resume:

Delaware State Police have arrested the 20 year old son of Raymond Elzey for his murder.

Troopers arrested Thompson today at the Sussex Correctional Institution near Georgetown today where he was being held on unrelated charges. Thompson was charged with Murder 1st and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned at Court 3 in Georgetown and is now being held without bail.

The cause of Elzey death was a result of multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Jim Rutledge Defends Tea Party Movement

Jim Rutledge Disagrees With Comments Made by Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell


FOREST Hill, Maryland- Republican U.S Senate Candidate Jim Rutledge of Maryland disagrees with comments made by Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell concerning the Tea Party Movement. Gov. Rendell told Fox News on Saturday that he did not believe that the growing support for the Tea Party constituted a legitimate movement. Rendell said, “I think they identify with the anger not necessarily the movement.” Jim Rutledge responded to this comment by stating, “The Tea Party does identify with the anger and they’re taking action- that’s a movement.”

The Rutledge for Senate Campaign also takes exception to Gov. Rendell’s comments that the Tea Party lacks clout and is solely the creation of the mainstream media. Jim Rutledge believes this is another attempt by liberal bureaucrats and career politicians to allow Washington to return to business as usual. A Fox News poll showed that 17% of voters consider themselves part of the Tea Party Movement while 56% considered the Tea Party a serious group. Jim Rutledge said, “Seventeen percent of the voters can decide every election in America.”

Jim Rutledge believes the Tea Party activists have created a strong national movement that will play a pivotal role in the November elections. The Rutledge Campaign is proud of its association with the Tea Party movement and continues to advocate limited government and lower taxes. Jim Rutledge said, “These are republicans, democrats and independents who are all working together to restore the constitution to our government.”

Jim Rutledge has spoken at Tea Party rallies across Maryland and believes it’s time for taxpayers to defeat liberals like Eric Wargotz and Barbara Mikulski. Jim Rutledge said, “Eric’s liberal track record shows he has more in common with the Democrats than conservative Republicans. Maryland Republicans will never reach conservative Democrats by nominating liberals.”

Following a final ultrasound and hormone analysis, Zoo staff confirmed late yesterday that Mei Xiang is not pregnant but was experiencing a pseudo, or false, pregnancy during the past several months.

Zoo scientists, veterinarians, keepers, and FONZ volunteers were keeping a close eye on Mei, monitoring her hormone levels and behavior, as well as conducting weekly ultrasound exams in an attempt to determine if she was pregnant. On April 23, Mei’s progestagen concentrations had declined sufficiently to start the 24-hour watch. On reaching normal baseline levels, this decline ends in either the birth of a cub or the end of a pseudopregnancy. Based on current hormone analyses, and not having seen a fetus during the ultrasound exams, Zoo researchers have determined that Mei Xiang experienced a pseudopregnancy.

Female giant pandas almost always undergo a pseudopregnancy when they ovulate but fail to conceive. During a pseudopregnancy, hormonal changes and behaviors are identical to those of a true pregnancy, making it very difficult to determine if a giant panda is actually pregnant or not. This is the fifth time Mei Xiang has had a pseudopregnancy.

We expect Mei to return to normal, hormonally and behaviorally, in the coming days, which includes an increase in appetite and activity level.

SHOREBIRDS GAME NOTES: 4/28 @ Asheville

PREVIEW: Following a 5-0 defeat to close the Hagerstown series, the Shorebirds open a four-game series against Southern Division foe, Asheville (Colorado Rockies). The Shorebirds have dropped to second place (0.5 game back) for the first time since 4/10.

FLYING OUT OF McCORMICK: The upcoming series features the top two home run hitting teams in the league at maybe the friendliest hitters park in the league. Through 12 games at McCormick Field, there have been 23 home runs hit between the Tourists and their opposition. The Shorebirds are coming from Municipal Stadium, where only seven home runs have been hit in 11 games.

8th IN THE LEAGUE: Garabez Rosa has climbed into the SAL’s top ten in batting average (.344) for the first time this season.

TOP OF THE LEAGUE: The Shorebirds held sole position of first place in the Northern Division for 16 straight days until last night.

ROAD WARRIORS: The Shorebirds are 7-4 away from Perdue Stadium and 3-5 at home this season. The ‘Birds are hitting .280 on the road and just .223 at home. The ‘Birds have scored 71 runs in ten games on the road (6.45 per), while they scored 31 runs in eight games at home (3.87 per).

2ND FASTEST GAME: The Shorebirds and Suns played the second quickest nine-inning game last night in the South Atlantic League this season (1:59). The fastest game of the year belongs to Augusta and Savannah. On 4/14, Augusta beat Savannah 1-0 in 1:55. The last time the Shorebirds were involved in a quicker nine-inning contest was on July 17, 2006. The Shorebirds lost to Hickory 2-0 in an hour and 55 minutes.

BEAL BAFFLES: Shorebirds pitcher Jesse Beal faced just one batter over the minimum in seven dominating innings yesterday. He hit a bump in the road in the eighth and was pinned with a tough loss. Beal allowed just four base runners through the first seven innings.

BULLPEN IS RESTED: In the last series (at Hagerstown), only four bullpen arms made appearances (Nathan Moreau, Jake Smith, Bobby Bundy and James Brandhorst). The pen tossed only seven innings during the series. Nick Haughian has experienced the longest layoff, as he has been idle since April 22nd. Ryan Palsha has been off for five days (April 23rd).

VS. LEFTIES: The Shorebirds have not fared well against left-handed pitchers this season. They are batting just .215. The ‘Birds are hitting .286 against right-handed arms. The Tourists will throw back-to-back lefties to start the series.

44 CAREER HBP: Tyler Kolodny was hit by another pitch yesterday to up his grand total to 44 for his career. Last season, he matched the Shorebirds franchise record with 17 HBPs. Amongst active Orioles minor leaguers, Kolodny is second in career HBPs. Only Danny Figueroa (46) has been hit by more pitches in his career. Figueroa was hit by 14 when he played for the Shorebirds in 2007. The South Atlantic League record for HBPs in a single-season is held by Nyjer Morgan, who was hit by 32 pitches back in 2004 for Hickory.

BUMBRY REACHES AGAIN: Steve Bumbry was hit by a pitch in yesterday’s game to extend his road on-base streak to nine games. He has failed to reach base on the road only once (4/8).

Resume: Progress in the below outlined blow dart case has slowed and tips regarding those responsible are still sought.

Since this case was covered last year, detectives have continued to follow leads and interview persons of interest. On February 9th, 2010, investigators arrested Hamilton Smith, 20, of Bear, Delaware for his part in the following two incidents:
August 11th, 2010, Route 7 at Ocheltree Lane, Wilmington, Delaware
August 11th, 2010, Route 7 and Vincent Drive, Wilmington, Delaware

Mr. Smith was identified through tips and leads generated through this investigation. DSP was hoping to announce his arrest sooner; however, concern of compromising other active leads prevented it.

Mr. Smith was formally charged with two counts of Assault 2nd (felony) and two counts of Conspiracy 2nd (felony). He is free on bail awaiting trial in Superior Court.

Mayor Ireton Proposes Library Locations To County Executive

Mayor James Ireton, Jr., sent a letter to County Executive, Rick Pollitt Monday, April 26, 2010. Attached to the letter were aerial photos and computer generated renderings of potential library buildings.

There are three proposed locations, all in downtown Salisbury, using city-owned parking lots for use by the County. Each proposal is subject to approval by the City Council.

Mayor Ireton said, “We have attempted to make these proposals attractive based on our belief that the library should be located in downtown Salisbury.” He added, "I am grateful to Library Board Chairwoman Valerie Murphy for coming back to the table on numerous occasions in order to get to the point where the city was able to address the needs of the public.  I am confident that the County Executive, the County Council, and the City Council will recognize the hard work, time, and effort that went into crafting these proposals.  My sincere thanks to members of the Greater Salisbury Committee, Urban Salisbury, and to Bradley Gillis for all the time they gave in making the downtown the clear choice for the new library.  I am in awe of what our community can do when we rally together."

I have not read the legislation but it is being reported as giving local police the authority to stop and requiring ID from anyone they "suspect" of being an illegal immigrant. While I am all for guarding our borders I don't see how anyone can view this as a positive development. Demanding "papers" from people, citizens or otherwise, who are not in the midst of criminal act or other infraction is a hallmark of a police state. I'm a cop and I tend to agree with you. However, we are so far behind the eight ball and the Federal Government REFUSES to do ANYTHING, that something has to be done. I fully understand people's concerns (especially American's who are from Hispanic countries) about civil rights. But what about the rights and security of all Americans? Where do we draw the line? Keep in mind the VAST majority of law enforcement does the right thing the right way. There will always be a few knuckleheads who will abuse power, be they cops, garbage men or whatever.

I think AZ's Governor has simply signed into law what 70-80% of Americans feel should be done.

(My understanding of the bill/law is that police officers have to have a valid contact with a person.../moving vehicle violation/probable cause before asking for documentation.... like being required to have a driver's license when you drive a car.

Green card holders are required I believe to have their documentation on their person.

Word Of The Day: Dhimmitude

Had never heard the word until now---Google it and start reading…. Pretty interesting. Note that Muslims and certain other religions are exempt from the Obamacare penalties and it is supported by law. We are surrendering from within! The POTUS is leading us right down the path to total government control!

Dhimmitude is the Muslim system of controlling non-muslim populations conquered through jihad. Specifically, it is the TAXING of non-muslims in exchange for tolerating their presence AND as a coercive means of converting conquered remnants to islam.

The ObamaCare bill is the establishment of Dhimmitude and Sharia muslim diktat in the United States . Muslims are specifically exempted from the government mandate to purchase insurance, and also from the penalty tax for being uninsured. Islam considers insurance to be "gambling", "risk-taking" and "usury" and is thus banned. Muslims are specifically granted exemption based on this. How convenient.

So I John Smith, as a Christian, will have crippling IRS liens placed against all of my assets, including real estate, cattle, and even accounts receivables, and will face hard prison time because I refuse to buy insurance or pay the penalty tax. Meanwhile, Louis Farrakhan a racist Black Muslim will have no such penalty and will have 100% of his health needs paid for by the de facto government insurance. Non-muslims will be paying a tax to subsidize muslims. Period. This is Dhimmitude. Ain't it grand, thank you Mr. President!

Dhimmitude serves two purposes: it enriches the muslim masters AND serves to drive conversions to islam. In this case, the incentive to convert to islam will be taken up by those in the inner-cities as well as the godless Generation X, Y and Z types who have no moral anchor. If you don't believe in Christ to begin with, it is no problem whatsoever to sell Him for 30 pieces of silver. "Sure, I'll be a muslim if it means free health insurance and no taxes. Where do I sign, bro?"

P.S. Have you heard about the summit Obama is holding this month in D.C. for the future Muslim business leaders in the US? He wants to increase their ability to begin business opportunities in the US for the Muslim community! Pretty soon we can relocate to the middle east because all the Muslims will be here.

Noah's Ark found? Not so fast

Web sites are buzzing over claims that remains from Noah’s Ark may have been found on Turkey’s Mount Ararat. The finders, led by an evangelical group, say they are "99.9 percent" that a wooden structure found on the mountainside was part of a ship that housed the Biblical Noah, his family and a menagerie of creatures during a giant flood 4,800 years ago.

But researchers who have spent decades studying the region – and fending off past claims of ark discoveries – caution that a boatload of skepticism is in order.

"You have to take everything out of context except the Bible to get something tolerable, and they're not even working much with the Bible," said Paul Zimansky, an archaeologist and historian at Stony Brook University who specializes in the Near East - and especially the region around Ararat, known as Urartu.

Cornell archaeologist Peter Ian Kuniholm, who has focused on Turkey for decades, was even more direct - saying that the reported find is a "crock."

Cities With Job Growth Favor Public Sector Hiring

Annual Forbes.com ranking shows ‘awful year’ for employment in U.S.

This year's "best places for jobs" list is easily the most depressing since we began compiling our annual rankings almost a decade ago. In the past — even in bad years — there were always stalwart areas creating lots of new jobs. In 2007's survey 283 out of 393 metros areas showed job growth, and those at the top were often growing employment by at least 5 percent to 6 percent. Last year the number dropped to 63. This year's survey, measuring growth from January 2009 to January 2010, found only 13 metros with any growth.

Mike Shires at the Pepperdine School of Public Policy, who develops the survey, calls it "an awful year." Making it even worse, the source of new jobs in almost all areas were either government employment or highly taxpayer-funded sectors like education and health. This year's best-performing regions were those that suffered the smallest losses in the private economy while bulking up on government steroids.

So far the recovery has favored the government-dominated apparat and those places where public workers congregate. After all, besides Wall Street, public-financed workers have been the big beneficiaries of the stimulus, with state and local governments receiving more than one-third of all funds. Public employment grew by nearly 2 percent over the past three years, while private employment has dropped by 7 percent.
