All I know is that out here in the sticks, out here in hick country, out here in the hinterlands, my 3,200 square foot home (if you count my finished basement) is as comfortable, cool, and dry as a shopping mall. A 72 perfect degrees, and it has been at least five years since the power’s gone out, and even then it wasn’t longer than an hour.

Honestly, if your government is too inept to deliver the basics, and other than water — something else California can’t deliver — there is nothing more basic than electricity, you live in a third world country.

Most European don't use air conditioning. Only Americans consume the largest amounts of electricity and drive these huge gasoline guzzling pick up trucks and SUV's. Newsflash, only Americans think this is the greatest country. Poor immigrants come to make money because Europe won't let them in without a skill or degree, and wealthy businesses come because Trump has relaxed restrictions to make it easier to maximize their profits. Most Europeans like our paid time off, cleaner air, healthcare and education and no mass shootings. Maybe it's why we live longer.

If I hadn't gotten drafted back in the day, I would have stayed in California where I was temporarily living at the time. Best year round weather in the country. You have the ocean coast, and the mountains less than a day's drive from anywhere in the state. Some of the most diverse terrain in the country. Pot is legal to obtain from state dispensaries, and there is no shortage of things to do and see. But alas, I requested the Army send me back to my hometown when my time was up. Third world? Don't believe it. Nothing third world about California except overpopulation from all the people that WANT to live in a nice climate with dynamic lifestyle availability. With overpopulation, even first world counties have the same problems as third world and developing countries. Just look at ALL of our densely populated cities and the problems they are experiencing today. Yes, many are looking like third world countries, and not just the ones in California.
